well here it is

How can I go about improving system performance as well as gaming performance within Dark Age of Camelot?

Below are services that can be turned off/ disabled within Windows XP. They greatly improve system performance and use a lot less system resources. Please note, you should backup the registry before attempting this - instructions are below. Please use this at your own risk. Mythic Entertainment will not be held responsible for any harm done to your PC.

To take a snapshot of your computer system, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore.

On this screen click create a restore point then click next. On the next screen it will ask you to type in a description of your restore point. Lastly, click on create, and it will save all of your windows settings. Once it has done this, please click on close. Your computer basic settings have now been stored. Please note, you should use the backup utility within Windows XP to completely backup your computer settings.

PLEASE NOTE, every user?s machine is different and although these settings have worked on in-house machines, they are not guaranteed to work on your PC. Please use careful judgment with this guide.

Where to begin: Click on the Windows start button, click on settings, click on control panel click on administrative tools and lastly double click on ?services?.

THE SERVICES

If a service is running, please click the STOP button before disabling.

Alerter DISABLE -Notifies users of administrative alerts. Use at your discretion.

Application Layer Gateway Service Automatic - Provides support for 3rd party protocol plug-ins for Internet Connection Sharing and the Internet Connection Firewall. Set on Automatic.

Automatic Updates DISABLE - Enables the download and installation of critical Windows updates. If the service is disabled, the operating system can be manually updated at the Windows Update Web site. You can do this manually by going to windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

Background Intelligent Transfer Service MANUAL ? Leave this setting the way it is. Many Windows programs use this service without your knowing.

Clip Book DISABLE - Enables Clip Book Viewer to store information and share it with remote computers. If the service is stopped, Clip Book Viewer will not be able to share information with remote computers. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. Disable at your discretion.

COM+ Event System DISABLE - Supports System Event Notification Service (SENS), which provides automatic distribution of events to subscribing Component Object Model (COM) components. If the service is stopped, SENS will close and will not be able to provide logon and logoff notifications. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. Leave at the default setting..

COM+ System Application DISABLE - Manages the configuration and tracking of Component Object Model (COM)+-based components. If the service is stopped, most COM+-based components will not function properly. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. Leave at default setting.

Computer Browser DISABLE - Maintains an updated list of computers on the network and supplies this list to computers designated as browsers. If this service is stopped, this list will not be updated or maintained. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. This service is not needed on a standalone system. Please note, if you wish to view computers on a LAN setting, leave this setting enabled.

Cryptographic Services ENABLE - Provides three management services: Catalog Database Service, which confirms the signatures of Windows files; Protected Root Service, which adds and removes Trusted Root Certification Authority certificates from this computer; and Key Service, which helps enroll this computer for certificates. If this service is stopped, these management services will not function properly. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. Leave this one enabled.

DHCP Client DISABLE - *Please check with your network administrator to see if your network is on DHCP before altering this setting* Manages network configuration by registering and updating IP addresses and DNS names. This service receives a Dynamic IP address from your DHCP server. If you have a static IP, meaning an IP that will not change, then you should turn this service off. If you're on a 56k connection or have a dynamic IP, leave the setting default.

Distributed Link Tracking Client DISABLE - Maintains links between NTFS files within a computer or across computers in a network domain. Disable at your discretion.

Distributed Transaction Coordinator DISABLE - Coordinates transactions that span multiple resource managers, such as databases, message queues, and file systems. If this service is stopped, these transactions will not occur. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. Disable at your own discretion. No problems were encountered with this service turned off.

DNS Client Automatic - Resolves and caches Domain Name System (DNS) names for this computer. If this service is stopped, this computer will not be able to resolve DNS names and locate Active Directory domain controllers. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. Leave this setting on its default setting.

Error Reporting Service DISABLE - Allows error reporting for services and applications running in non-standard environments. This will allow you to send error reports to Microsoft when an error occurs. You can disable this service if you never send error reports to Microsoft and do not like to see the message every time an error should occur.

Other things that help :

Turn graphics colours down to 16 bit (the human eye can only see 22bits usually, you'll not notice the difference from 32 bit, and you're reducing the graphics processing needed).

Exclude the Camelot directories from being checked by your real-time Av. Make sure you do a minimum weekly scan to compensate.

Delete Microsoft Office Image Writer (if you have it, and don't use it), as well as any printer you don't have/use any more - these can hog CPU time to an incredible degree when they have documents on them that they can't print.

Make sure you have the latest graphics drivers (or latest that'll run smoothly if you have issues with latest ones).

Run with as few programs in the background as you can.

If you have two drives, put Camelot on a different one from your Pagefile (if you have three, seperate Camelot, Pagefile and O/S).

Set graphics driver settings to Performance.

Turn off Hibernation if you have it.

Regularly defrag your hard drive (I have DisKeeper to keep it defragged).

Once you've got things tuned, I'd switch off the System restore and back up the PC.

Its a long shot but try running the post through an English->Danish translator website...It might make it easier to identify some of the services

Or add English as a language and change it to default - reboot, then change the services with the same names as the guide, then change back again and reboot.
