There are plenty of people who hunt/fish for food (My dad used to be into Fly Fishing and would bring home Salmon he'd caught occasionally) - it's hunting for 'recreation' that narks me off, sad fact is somthing has to die in order for somthing else to live, thats just the natural order of things. But it's not somthing which should be celebrated or turned into a cheap mockery.

And no, i'm not a Vegitarian... in fact Vegitarians piss me off, but thats a different matter entirly. The point i'm trying to make is that it's one thing to hunt for food, it's somthing totally different to kill somthing just because you have the power to do it.

Tell you what, towmorrow i'll go down to the local primary school and shoot down every 5yr old with my high powered rifle at 150 metres - thats hunting in a nut-shell, the only difference is people don't feel as guilty when it's somthing they view as a 'lesser' animal. Heck, i'll go one step further - i'll take photographs, lop the head off the biggest kid I kill, get it stuffed and slap it on my wall so that when everyone comes to my house they can see what a big man I am.

People that watch me play daoc think its boring as hell and dont understand why i can sit on my ass for hours moving a mouse and pressing buttons.

bad example, when playing daoc you are not really doing much physically (which makes people wonder wtf you are doing behind the flashing screen) but you are quiet busy mentally, cant say the same about fishing :p

There are plenty of people who hunt/fish for food

perfectly understandable to me...

i've been deer hunting once, spent the whole day tracking a deer and only fired 1 shot.

it was rather intense as you can't just shoot them when you first see them, there are certain rules you gotta follow.

after we cooked some of the meat and the guy who took me around, took the rest of the meat home.

don't knock it till you tried it.

killing animals for fun, via the net is not right at all.

Just wondering... how many of you have actually been hunting?

Hunting is not just running up to an animal with a big gun and going "KABLAM!".

For instance, when shooting geese, you have to get up at 4am and sit in a hole. You can sit in the hole for hours and see maybe one flock of geese, get one shot... and miss. It's hard. It's also thrilling/enjoyable... and geese are tasty, too :D

I acheive the same on the army, I sit in a firetrench shooting targets for hours on end getting pissing wet through and freezing my bollocks off,its hard and Thrilling, but still no defencless animal trying to find breakfast gets its head blown off.

Ok, so maybe I was a little too blunt with "I hate all Vegitarians" comment. Truth is I don't much care, if sombody wants to not eat meat... well fair enough, i'm not going to make a big fuss about it even if I do personally think it's a little weird. However, when your lectured on the train at 6:30am by some twat just for the 'crime' of eating a bacon sandwich it tends to leave you a little jaded.

I'm all for arguing the morality of eating or not eating meat, but it's more than I can do to just get on the train and collapse in a chair until I reach my stop. The last thing I want is sombody I don't even know bitching at me about shit like "Eating meat is against Gods will" or "How do you sleep at night knowing your responsible for killing that animal?"

...Ok, i'll take back the comment about hating Vegitarians. I only hate the over-zealeous freaks who do things like stop you on the train and talk your ear off for half an hour on the evils of indulging your natural instincts. Whats going to be attacked next? I don't drink Alcohol, so I guess i'm going to have to avoid the pub for a while - I wouldn't want to landlord jumping over the bar and stabbing me just because instead of buying his overpriced booze i'm buying his overpriced softdrinks :(

Me too. That goes for everything they might be representing. Trying to stuff beliefs, habbits etc. down other peoples throats makes want to kill somebody.

It's a sad thing people can't go about minding their own business these days.

One of the main problems with "keeping up the fine traditions of hunting" is that there isn't anything dangerous to hunt anymore, it's all bloody well protected now by law. Fishing requires a license (limiting what you can catch as well), hunting requires so many permits now you could spend winter just trying to sift through it all (not a bad thing either) and when you do get it all sorted, you can only hunt small furry animals that are considered "pests" by rural councils (Fox's and rabbits etc).

You hear from all these "hunters" boasting about how there keeping up he finest of human tradition, yet when you ask them what there hunting, it's almost always an animal you can buy in a bloody pet shop. A rabbit does not require a bullet to take it down (fearsom creature that it is), you could probobly hunt one with a crossbow easily enough. Plus where is the challenge in that?

To be honest, there probobly pining away for the days when they could go out and shoot elephants and tigers and other such animals, and have a laught about it in the hunting lodge afterwards. Now an animal that fights back, and that would willingly eat you if you tasted different to antilope, now that would be a challenge, especially if all you had was a knife, spear, pistol or some-such weapon. It's easy to pick off a target half a mile away (tank vs rocket infantry as an example), but it takes wits, brains and cunning to take on a target at close range, something most hunters WONT do (pussies!).

Lets face it, it's no fun if you have to put yourself in harms way to win.

I'm Binky, and thats been my "annoying rant of the week."
