Sofa
Napkin
loo
lounge

and i looove the name StJohn (pronounced synjen) i think its gorgeous!

I had a mate called Singeon who used to ran the Milton House Hotel in Montpelier, Cheltenham. Great bloke, used to stay there quite often. He used to put porn on the in house video system using the code word 'Red dwarf episodes', lol. He also served Port by the half pint glass after we'd been out for a few beers. Seriously good times :)

Having breakfast one morning there and from the doorway he asks me if I saw the 'Red Dwarf' bit where the bloke was arm deep... you get the idea, only he hadn't seen the rather shocked looking OAP lady sat in the corner. Me trying trying to shut him up and point in her general direction whilst he blabered on regardless. Priceless memory.

Sofa, Napkin, loo, lounge. Mrs says Sofa, Serviette, toilet and lounge but she used to ride horses and lived in the country. I've spoiled her now though!

Sofa / settee / couch ?
Settee usually - Couch sounds shit to me, Sofa sounds too american.

Napkin / serviette / kitchen roll ?
All three depending on what it is :D Kitchen roll is kitchen roll, napkins are napkins.

Lavatory / toilet / loo / bog / little boys room / mens room / wash room ?
Shitter, Thunderbox or Toilet depending on the company.

sitting room / drawing room / front room / lounge ?
Depends which room I'm referring to :D

When I was born, up until age 5-6 I lived in a large house, I didnt really want for anything at all - pretty spoilt in a way because my parents were well off, I learnt to speak by listening to my parents but also my grandad, who spent alot of time looking after me while my parents worked, both my grandad and my dad are the typical upright men who had been in the army and spoke with what I guess people in this thread would refer to as an "upper class vocabulary".

Then my parents split up and I ended up in a council estate, like the ones you see on the TV with hoodie gangs and burning cars etc. I learnt to fit into that environment because we lived there for around 15 years, then we moved again to a house we actually built ourselves, which reminds me alot of the house I lived in before I was 5, so its like I've gone back again.

As a result of all of this I find I can get along well in both upper class and lower class environments - my vocabulary is good enough thanks to my Dad and Grandad, so it doesnt give me away so much when I'm mixing with upper class people, but my time living on a council estate has given me a nice array of cursewords to fall back on when required :D

I also find that my accent doesnt give me away as much as it might - me coming from the depths of Norfolk - due to the fact that I've spent alot of my life staying in Newcastle, because of that I find I can slip into a geordie dialect without too much trouble, and because of the time spent away I dont have a recognisable accent unless I put it on :)

Ahh.. good to know I wasn't confused for nothing then. Being a non native English speaker I assumed the last one was meant to be "living room", the main room in a house/apartment.
