how can I tell which version of CS i am running?

I have just downloaded HL 1.1.0.8, but I need to now get an update of CS. I'm only on a 56k modem tho, so the difference between downloading the 100mb full patch or the 36mb upgrade from 1.1 to 1.3 is quite large. I just need some way of telling what CS version I have so I don't waste my time downloading a potentially useless patch, i.e if I have a version before 1.1 I will need to downlaod the 100mb file.... but otherwise....

Well if you had CS and were playing it before then you must have had 1.1.

I cant remeber the server version number for 1.1, but check your maps directory if your not sure, you should have the maps; Inferno;Rotterdamn and Thunder.

I'm at work right now but doesn't it actually say it on the HL main screen? And it gives the CS version on the main CS screen.

i dont think u can upgrade from 1.1 to 1.3 m8,only from 1.2 to .1.3
it says on the start up screen waht version u got,if it ends in 1 u got 1,2 u got 2 , etc etc
i say this cos i tried to go from 1.1 to 1.3 on my pc at work,and it didnt.(if u see what i mean!)

Let me clarify something, there is no cs1.2, never was.

There was 1.1 with hl1107, but as hes already got the 1108 bit thats not a problem.

If you had retail there was 1002, thats the engine revision not the cs version.

You upgrade mod verison from 1.1>1.3

retail from 1002>1003.

aha i DO have retail version ch3tan.i think we could both do with "clarification" as i tend to look at it from my (retail) perspective whereas you tend to look at things from ur (mod) perspective.
and as u are aware,from my perspective there was a 1.2 you see...
and i have tried upgrading from 1.1 (retail) and as i said it wont ave none of it.
and not to be too smart, but i ALSO have 1.008 for half life,as i have both cd's in the retail pack,and use half life to play DOD.so u see he could have retail OR mod version,couldnt he?

No, because...

There is no CS 1.2, again there are engine builds 1000, 1001, 1002 and 1003. Yet the actual CS verison is 1.0, 1.1, 1.1 (with dmc support, and tweaked entcode as in hl 1107) and 1.3.

As for MODs, all MODs -including DoD can be played using cstrike retail install. You dont have to install HL as well to play DoD.

I have the retail pack as well, I choose not to use it, but it did when I bought it support all mods.

Well I used to be bad and share a CD key, so one day I decided oh well HL generations is £20 quid so I bought it.

Well there is always one, however I am hesitant to belive another person has installed both cs retail CD and HL CD, meaning extra d/ling extra HD space, extra effort, using two cd keys -for no damned reason.

I will lose faith in the world if I belive two people are that -and no offencse- stupid.

feel free to scroll up thodgrain. youll find a guy asked how to find what version of cs he had, so he could download the right file. you told him he was wrong and that he could only upgrade withthe small patch from 1.2, and chetan then pointed out that 1.2 doesn't exist of sorts, but more importantly that the guys was right, hell, i dont think any of us wanna make him download the 100meg file because we told him th wrong thing

and then thodgrain just had to be right, hence we get where we are now
