First, a public service announcement: We heartily recommend you get your hands, paws, or claws on Foundations and install it starting today - beat the rush! On to the price list:

Now, the cost of your lot. We're excited about our system, and we think you will be as well. The challenge was to come up with a system that didn't favor those able to log in at a certain hour, that took into account the particular economy of a given server, and that allowed the lots to be worth whatever people were willing to pay.

What we've got is a reverse auction system - a system that takes all of the above into account. Lots will start at 95 platinum each. We expect that there will be very few takers at that price! If a lot goes unpurchased for an hour, the price will come down. If the parcel of land still remains unwanted, the price will drop still lower, and so on until someone decides the price is right (or the lot costs a single platinum piece - that's the minimum cost).

Once you have a lot, there are literally thousands of things you can buy. Here are the prices for the "big ticket features":

Cottage deed, 1 platinum (1000 gold)
House deed, 10 p (10,000 g)
Villa deed, 50 p (50,000 g)
Mansion deed, 100 p (100,000 g)

The rent costs per week of the houses are two percent of their initial cost, which works out to 20 gp, 200 gp, 1pp, 2 pp in weekly rent based upon these prices.

All other items that you purchase will be priced as marked and will not have any upkeep costs.

Here are some of the things you can add to your home:

Porch deed, 1 p (1000 g)
Bindstone, 1 p (1000 g)
Vault, 1 p (1000 g)

Alchemy table, 4 p (4000 g)
Forge, 4 p (4000 g)
Lathe, 4 p (4000 g)

Hastener, 100 gold
Smith, 100 g
Enchanter, 100 g
Emblemeer, 100 g
Recharger, 100 g

Healer, 5 platinum (5000 g)

Consignment Merchant, 1 p (1000 gold)

Grandmaster Merchant, 500 gold
Siege Merchant, 500 g
Snowdonia, Druim Cain, or Vindsaul Faste Teleporter, 500 g

All other merchant and teleporter types - 100 gold

All other items, far too numerous to list here, are priced as marked on Pendragon.

Okay! There it is - now head to Pendragon and test it out!

I like this. The reverse auction makes sure each of the guilds can get a lot before individual people can. Nicely done.

they made it so the biggest guilds get the best plot first and so on

only 95 plat to start they drop to 1 plat per plot after some time on the test server u could use ur BP's to pay ur rent, they done this to stop the people claiming all the plots while most are at work :) (when it goes live) there is also 4 npc's to get your vault items back if your house gets repossesed :)

Well then they have written it poorly. No other way of understanding it than price will start at 95p, if nobody buys it will fall until it hits 1p. This is the price of a lot, one lot is one house.

Mythic assumes no guild will go out and spend that amount of money (individuals just don't count really yet). As no guild is going to pay 95p, everybody has some time to look around, find what they like, etc... after a week the price will be substantially lower (not sure on the rate at which it will decrease).
But I guess the individuals will be left with the 1p lands, no problem with that. This is a massive multiplayer game, not some solo game :)

Think the prices are ok and if the auction prices get down fast enough that wont be a problem too. I dont want to see only mansions in those zones ;)

Housing is way overpriced - more specifically the reverse auction system of pricing lots excludes casual gamers from housing. Only people who are able to put in enormous amounts of time farming gold will be able to afford them, and there will be enough of them to prevent casual players buying them. By casual players, I dont mean someone who hasn't put any time into this game. I'm talking about people who, like myself, have played this game since release day but simply don't have the time to milk every moment that df is open to put together the 95P that will be needed to get a plot of land when foundations arrive (that's before buying the most basic house on top). I've managed to save 8P now, and maybe by the time housing arrives that might get up to say 20P (if I'm lucky). But that will simply not be enough - the plots will have long gone by then to those who can basically play 24/7 and/or have specifically levelled money-farming characters. Of course some crafters may well also be able to afford it.

This is not good business from Mythic. Their notes on housing implied that housing would be available to many people, not just to those who are able to farm gold 24/7, the powergamers. It is interesting that they have today backtracked and withdrawn some of the housing notes. They have created a system that ignores the length of time people have been subscribing to this game - and as such many of us long time customers will miss out on what was supposed to be a fun add-on to the game. I am NOT knocking anyone who is able to put together 95+P for housing. I AM knocking the system which mythic has used to implement housing. They are being heavily criticised in the US daoc community over this. We can only hope that they take note and that when we get foundations they have done something to put this right.

You will not need 95p to buy a plot of land. Plots of land start at 95p and go down in price every hour (I've heard talk of 500g an hour). This will allow guilds to buy first, then after a week or so you can buy your own plot of land for 1p and a cottage for 1p, 2p is certainly within your budget. I think it is a very, very good system. Not only does it make sure guilds can get a nice plot for their guild houses, it still allows individuals to own there own piece of land and also prevents one guild from storming in and snapping up 3 villages around the entrance to the zone 30 seconds after the server opens.

I understand the system, and I understand the thinking behind it. However, the point I made was that all plots will be gone well before they get anywhere near the 1P mark - as I said having played the game since release the most I've ever had is the 8P I now have. By the time foundations arrive this might (with luck of df being open when I'm on) rise to 20P. I think that with only 400 plots they will all be gone by the time lot prices fall to that level - this therefore means that a huge amount of players will be excluded when the original housing literature clearly said that housing, in the form of the most basic cottages, would be available to even non-wealthy individual players (they have changed this since foundations release after the outcry, saying they never really meant it!) . To be honest, I guess you could say its more a question of inadequate supply. Because there just won't be enough houses available the lot prices will never reach affordable levels for the average player. They have said that more zones will be opened to accomodate this, but this will likely be a long time after foundations is first released - again not good business after the expectations raised in the original housing documents.

Zmurf, don't be a dick.

yeah, ofc we can judge the prices as to high since we are yet to see what actually will happen on the US servers.

or not

Ah, so we can't form a considered view or express an opinion... my mistake. I'll try not to interrupt the usual flow of BW bitching and flaming in future. ;)
