Well, me and Kenny got the thumbs up for getting a mortgage, so today the house hunting began.

we're buying the house we already live in Put an offer in, and after some haggling, it all seems to be going through.

Yay!

not even 24 hours ?

Congrats anyway, I'm in the same boat... renting is expensive, so the options are buy or share somewhere in london... I'm just having trouble convincing myself that that much money is really worth it for such relatively crappy houses (having lived in South Africa for 18 years I can't help but compare :( ) It's a huge commitment to make...

Impossible in the current market. I've been to see some fantastic houses recently on the very day they became available to buy - told them I would visit them later that afternoon for a second viewing, and in the 2 hours I was gone they'd already had several offers, and accepted one.

The way the property market is at the moment, you need to view VERY early, and be prepared to make a decision/offer on the spot
Heh, to give you some idea - went to view 5 properties that had come on the market this morning - by the time I went to see them this afternoon, 4 of them were sold. That's a record breaking 4 hours :)

I can only say....wow.

Uber quick that. I don't think it's ever been like that over here. Fast would be considered 'within the same working week'.
Good news for sellers though [heh].

House prices are indeed insane, we're in a 5 bedroom semi detached in South East London, in the process of having it put onto the market, the price is somewhere in the region of £550K, needless to say there's no way I can afford to get a nice place in London, moving abroad seems to be the only way.

My mum is moving to the south of France. The prices in the south are mighty low.
