I'm fully expecting, and really hoping, that you will look at me in a whithering fashion, and tell me to shut up, but it has to be asked...

Ready?

Are you sure that its still your account thats active under new passwords, and not that it was shut down because it wasn't used and someone else has snapped up the name?

Lol, that doesn't answer anything. If you don't use your account frequently, then Hotmail can simply shut it down. Then your account no longer exists, then someone else can take your WHATEVER@hotmail.com address. It doesn't matter how long you've had it, how long ago did you last check it was what I was asking...

Edit:// Ok, if you use it everyday my usefullness had run out then. I'm at a loss.

M

yes, check it everyday....... it is my primary e-mail program

the secret answer is still there... so the account is still active, thats what i meant, except sum1 has changed the answer... :(

M

Some sad individual probably sat there guessing your password/secret answer and has eventually guessed it, changed the password and locked you out. All because they were very bored. Or didn't like you very much.

Since it doesn't matter anymore, what was your secret password question?

ye, but if u use custom filters, stick in the following for subject, youre spam free:

porn xxx farm mortgage virgin sluts horse money loan

unless of course you like emails containin such infomation.... :p

I made my own custom folder called "Bloody Junk Mail" and put "FREE" "XXX" "SEX" "MONEY" etc... as triggers for all these e-mails to be sent into that folder. This was pre-junkmail filter. And then... I forgot about it. For, ooooh, a year?

Next thing I know hotmail are screaming at me because I've got far too many e-mails, and I can't think why. Then I find a folder tucked away containing 2,000 odd junkmails :( And I can't delete it because everytime I even try to access the folder, it crashes Internet Explorer because the sheer weight of proposals to enhance my non existant penis warp the space time fabric, and make IE crash and drag me back to the beginning of the process again, thus causing a permanent loop.

Its just... surely its best to route your secret question firmly in the land of surreal? Where only you and your twisted brain could fathom a response? Rather than something someone with computer savvy, or vague knowledge of you, could possibly work out.

I know this is a bit late, but I was just curious about the question.

EDIT:// And I did just delete the folder in the end, after a day of panic and illogic. Which is a shame, because I'd have liked to see what my trap snared, but hey, thats what I get for being a ditz :)

My old housemate used my computer to download filthy *filthy* porn while I was out. I'm talking worse than bestial, JORDAN porn. Joe Best porn. Nasty nasty nasty. I worry that this is reflected in the spamming from "Nasty Dogfart Sluts" :(

My computer is unclean.

The computer we left as a server in the old house actually had a SEX icon installed on the task bar when we came to collect it back, to let you priveledged few connect via a really expensive pay per minute phone line, to see rank porn.

Back on topic mewizard, I'm thinking its very unlikely they'll be able to do anything :( I've sent an e-mail via my hotmail account to an auto password help thing, see if they send me back a contact for you, but I wouldn't hold my breath :(

Behold my helpfulness. People who aren't Mewizard are about to get very bored right about now

This is an auto-generated response designed to answer your question as
quickly as possible. Please note that you will not receive a reply if you
respond directly to this message. We hope the directions below answer your
question. If after following the directions your problem is still unresolved,
please send your question to the e-mail address listed at the end of this
message and a Customer Support Representative will help you.

We realize that this e-mail message is lengthy, but please read the entire
message below because the answer to your question may be included.

Within this message is information on:

I. Retrieving Your Password

II. Changing Your Password

III. Still Didn't Solve Your Problem?

**************************

I. Retrieving Your Password

Because of our Privacy Policy and our utmost concern for your security,
Hotmail provides you with two ways to retrieve your lost or forgotten password.

>>> To retrieve or change your password if you have a secret question

1. Go to:

https://memberservices.passport.com/ppsecure/MSRV_ResetPW.asp

2. Answer several account profile questions on your "Sign-in Name",
"Country/Region", "State", and "ZIP Code".

3. Click "Continue". Your secret question appears.

4. Answer your secret question correctly and you can reset your password
instantly.

>>> To retrieve your password if you do not have a secret question

1. Send an e-mail message requesting help with your password to:

service_x@hotmail.com

2. In the "Subject" box, type:

PW VERIFICATION INFO ENCLOSED

3. Provide the following information.

- Name (first and last)

- Sign-in name

- Birth date

- Country/region

- State

- ZIP or postal code

- Approximate date of last successful sign-in or approximate date of
account registration

If you provide all of the information requested and it is correct, Hotmail
resets your password and sends it by e-mail to the address from which you sent
your request. As soon as you can gain access to your account, change your
password and your secret question in the "Options" page.

>>> To change your secret question

1. Click "Options" to the right of the "Contacts" tab. The "Options" page
appears.

2. Under "Your Information", click the "Secret Question" link. The "Secret
Question" page appears.

3. Type your password in the box provided. Below that, type your new secret
question and its answer.

4. Click "OK" to complete the change or "Cancel" to return to the "Options"
page without changing your secret question.

If you are using a non-English version of Hotmail, remember that you must
type your password, like your sign-in name, in Standard English-based text.

Note: If you do not sign in to your Hotmail account for 30 days or within the
first 10 days after you set up your account, Hotmail marks your account as
"Inactive". Your stored e-mail messages are deleted, and inbound messages are
returned to the sender. Your Passport is still functional, and your Hotmail
sign-in name is reserved. To reactivate your account, go to
http://www.hotmail.com and type your sign-in name and password. If your account
remains "Inactive" for 90 days, Hotmail permanently deletes it. If you want to
permanently close your Hotmail account, you must not sign in to Hotmail or any
other Passport site (such as Messenger or eShop) for which you use your
user@hotmail.com Passport for a full 90 days. In addition, if your Hotmail
account is closed, your hotmail.com Passport is also closed.

*************************

II. Changing Your Password

>>> To change your password

1. Click "Options" to the right of the "Contacts" tab. The "Options" page
appears.

2. Under "Your Information", click "Password". The "Password" page appears.

3. In the "Old Password" text box, type your current password.

4. In the "New Password" text box, type a new password.

5. In the "Reenter New Password" text box, confirm your new password by
retyping it.

6. Click "OK" to change your password or click "Cancel" to return to the
"Options" page without changing your password.

Suggestions for changing your password:

- Your password must be at least six and not more than sixteen characters
long and include both letters and numbers (for example, "Classics39").

- Your password is also case sensitive, so be aware of any letters that
you capitalize.

- Do not use dictionary words from any language (for example, "armchair",
"fauteuil", or "silla".)

- Do not use proper names, such as the name of your pet, best friend, or
significant other (for example, "James" or "Fluffy").

- Do not use personal information that a person could easily figure out
(for example, using "Scarlett" as your password if your favorite movie is "Gone
with the Wind").

- Use a combination of letters, numbers, and punctuation (for example,
"amos94$!").

- Use something that you can remember, but is difficult to figure out (for
example, "VivLso39!" as an abbreviation for "Vivien Leigh played Scarlett O'Hara
in 1939!").

Note: We recommend you change your Secret Question and Answer when you update
your password. This maintains a higher level of security on your account. Your
secret question allows only you to retrieve your password online if you ever
forget it.

Note: If you are using a non-English version of Hotmail, your password, like
your sign-in name, must be typed in Standard English-based text.

Warning: To ensure your privacy, a Hotmail employee will never ask you for
your current password, either by phone or e-mail. Hotmail requires your password
only when you sign in to your account and even then, your password is not
displayed on screen. If you receive a message that asks for your current
password, please forward it to abuse@hotmail.com immediately and do not respond
to the message. Never share your password or secret question and answer with
anyone else. And change your password and secret question regularly to increase
the security of your account.

*************************

III. Still Didn't Solve Your Problem?

Send an e-mail question (including any additional information such as
operating system, browser type, and error message) to:

service_x@hotmail.com

and a Customer Support Representative will help you.

Remember that MSN Hotmail also has comprehensive online help available--just
click "Help" in the upper right corner.
