Yeah,I'll def jump in some time and maybeez bump into you.

You know thodgrain,I just realised this thread started about broadband (ADSL & ISDN) and now we've turned it into a discussion about Quake 2 mission packs and relevent servers LoL!!

 Aah ,I suppose it is still relevent as we're talkin about ping times on said servers  .

to go back slightly to the subject,i just got my bt bill this morning, and the home highway service has gone down from £39.99 to £26.00,but with less call allowance.the difference to me seems to be that im up by about a tenner a month ,which is a GOOD THING :)

Can't be bad m8,can't be bad  .
I've only had Highway for a couple of weeks so my first bill since I got it had the conversion charge on it :( .

Does the £26.00 still include the Surftime inclusive yeah?

I tell ya thodgrain,I'm in a total dillema here m8,as to what to do ISP wise??.

The easiest option (on the pocket anyway) would be to sign up with BT Internet or Openworld or whatever they call it?,but with the bad press BT are getting just now regarding connection speeds etc it's not worth it.

I'm gonna investigate a Scottish ISP I found, you may have heard of em?
www.abelgratis.co.uk
I haven't checked out the website yet,I'll do it in a 'wee' while.
They provide 0800 number deals, you have to be with BT,as your phone provider. The guy I spoke to on the phone mentioned two main packages : one @ £11 and another @ £27,I can only presume, without havin looked at it that they are off-peak and 24/7 deals respectivly?.

I'll let you know what the score is after I've checked it out.

To be fair, the BTopenworld service has improved vastly over the last couple of weeks. I've been able to play games without any packetloss, which is a first for BTO :)

i use the credit card method of payment for bt anytime or whatever its called now :) thats £14.99.then my last bt bill, including all home phone calls and, well, everything ,was £30.00.
grand total £45.
2 days a week on avarage bt is useless for gaming, but on them days i use my pay per minute eurobell account.of course i would use barrydial, but it dont bloody work atm.:(

Great Minds.......

Well Thodgrain thats what I have been mulling through my mind of late myself m8,
Just register with the Openworld to use my Surftime and get my free access. When the connection speeds are ok & packet loss isn't too bad use it for gaming and when it does go to pot just use one of my 0845 dial-ups for gaming and keep the BT account for general surfing.

It seems the only sensible option m8,and if BT are starting to 'play game' if you'll pardon the pun,I'll stick with their dial-up free access account for gaming too.

This carry on with BW dial-up is getting to be a right pain in the ass now, thats been weeks since I've been able to dial-up with the BW Dialler.

well maybe soon they'l get it going.my eurobell account is pretty good as well tbh,i dont think too many ppl use it,its a 01293 number (crawley phone code),i dont think it gets too choked up.
bt...well tonight i had 1 game of c.s with 300 ping, then half hour later 2 games with 80 ping.funily enough my best score was the first game hehe bloody hell...

The ADSL service is improving a lot it seems with nildram/jolt, zen and bto all getting upgrading their lines.

Jolt is the service to go for ADSL wise, it’s the only one which claims to give you a good connection for gaming.

Its only 52 a month with no installation fees anywho.

Hi JayP,
Thanx for the input and the url m8,it's nice to hear that BT are upgrading their gateways.Although it's not the first time BT have told porkies is it?

<quote>BTopenworld have converted and upgraded a couple of their 40 gateways and improved performance is noticeable by users - so now just a case of getting the upgrades rolling across the other gateways. Hopefully the upgrades will include upgrades to their internal network since 40 x 155Mbps gateways is a lot of traffic to be potentially handling. Also with BTopenworld adding 10,000 users a month currently lets hope that new users are been added to the already expanded gateways.<un-quote>

I don't know how much of the thread you've read JayP? but I can't currently get ADSL in my area :( otherwise I would have chose it over ISDN.

Well Thodgrain,I did it m8,sheer desperation I suppose ;).
I registered an account with Openworld (SoulKlekta leaves himself wide-open for a public flaming!) for general surfing and my gaming ISP's (GSP's) for my off-peak gaming.

Contrary to what I was told, you can still get multilink with Openworld.I was told,by BT!!,that it wasn't possible but I can assure you m8 it is.

I only reg'd last night so I'll keep you up to date on how it performs.
When it's running fast,I dare say I'll use it for gaming aswell and Jolt (and BW when/if it ever gets sorted out.

I have the P-IN-100-ST-D/D2 that is the model without the pots interface. Although i would say if you are pinginging 40 to 50 you should stick to the one you have.

Scan have them in stock for 21 quid +vat though

What kinda chip does that use m8?,I'm fairly happy with the Winbond, apart from the driver issue with 98 but it does what I ask of it.

I think I've secured an Asus card at a reasonable price from a friend so that will be going in as soon as I have it

It would do sweet fuck all for your ping times as ping has absolutely nothing to do with bandwidth.

Chances are your pings would be higher as BT are gay fuckers and the latency in their DSL is appauling.

Not that it bothers me.
