Pretty straightforward really... Getting married in March and not a clue where to go on honeymoon. Any and all suggestions welcome!

Conditions:
- Obviously we would like relatively good weather
- Prefer to be relatively active although beach holidays aren't out as long as there are activities/excursions
- Would like to go somewhere thats not a "normal" holiday destination that we could do any other year
- Budget will depend on how much I like it and whether I think I can twist his arm ;)

Thanks in advance :)

I went on a cruise for mine, loved it.

Everyday waking up in a different place, great entertainment on a night time if you wanted it (spent most nights in the cinema tbh).

Getting off and doing what ever we wanted for the day then setting sail to a new location while we slept!!!

We both love cruising tbh, but as we were just on one this year I don't think it would feel as special doing it again :)

yes there is actually, a fair range of night-clubs and bars especially near the main hotels in Marrakech (couldnt say about the other cities). Also most of the hotels have their own bars which are open to the public and I found a couple with roof-top bars, brilliant views of the cities. The only downside is that a lot of the imported drinks are pretty expensive compared to some of the local wines etc. Its quite relaxed when it comes to drinking for a muslim country. Apart from ofc drinking in public near a mosque thats big no-no.

not that ive had a honey moon but mexico has been the most unique destination ive been to.

excursions include -
coral diving
chichen itza
swamp motorboating (which is part of the coral diving actually)

I went camping, in a 2 man ,tent in Sicily! Vowed I'd never set foot in a tent again. Other half couldn't understand why I wanted electricity and a bathroom. That was the closest we ever came to divorce!

I'd give Mexico the thumbs up as well, although I'd say avoid Cancun like the plague, and get down the coast to Tulum (one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen). There's plenty of beach, activity stuff (excellent diving) and cultural stuff like Coba as well. Plus, if you're feeling more adventurous, Havana is a $100 plane ride away from Cancun. March is also a good time to go.

South Africa would be another good choice, although a little late in the year, and Thailand is always worth a look (lots of choice too). Finally, if you want to be really adventurous, try Peru, its awesome.

Personally, in 50-odd countries visited, Morocco is the only one I've actually hated, but I was in Tangiers, which is a total shithole, so I can't speak for Marrakesh, but I found the aggressive begging very irritating (in other places like South East Asia its persistent but generally good-natured, I didn't find that in Morocco).

When you planning your honeymoon tbh? As obviously there are different seasons in different continents :)
But i'd suggest Australia ;), Antigua (ofc if you aren't put off by the recent murders), Russia is good( not warm though) and then theres the usual Seychelles.

we're getting hitched in September next year and are also having a similar quandary. So far, we've considered the Seychelles, the Maldives, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Thailand, Ko Samui and Mexico. All of which look quite promising in terms of weather, stuff to do and nice places to stay. The deciding factor could easily be time for you, as a lot of places have a monsoon/hurricane season in september, so maybe you should ask a travels agents advice for where is good in March.

I thought she said she didn't want a typical Honeymoon? Can't get more cliched than the Maldives. Everyone there is on honeymoon!

This site has a useful map that tells you which countries are best to visit at certain times of year.

so? it's pretty there :p

if you want something more a-typical, stay in Chateau St. Gerlach in Limburg, NL. From there you can day trip into germany, luxembourg and belgium, and you will be in the dutch province of Limburg. Pretty. And touristy. but there you go...
