I hope not, would have to be so different from the book that I don't think it would work.

Peter Jackson is going to start filming new version of King Kong now after that the trilogy is complete, but he HAS shown his interest on filming the Hobbit.

I just don't think The Hobbit would work on the screen, but then again, I never thought that Lord of the Rings would work on screen.. so we'll see. :)

What makes you think that? I think it could be done with greater ease than the LOTR series.

What I mean is that I'm quite sure Jackson would alter it too much for it to hit the spot of purist Tolkien fans.

But like I said, I don't know. I'm a purist and that's why I'm so scared that the movie might not work. Same doubts that I had for filming LOTR. Then again, as Jackson has proven his talents, he might pull it off perfectly.

I would have thought that Jackson had proved himself by now though. He has made 3 excellent Tolkien movies which stick very closely to the story line set out by Tolkien despite a few major changes (such as Old Tom (is that right?) in the first book) which were made in order to keep the film at a reasonable length so that the film distributors wouldn't throw a hissy fit.

The LOTR books are epic in length but The Hobbit is a lot shorter and more concise and I think that Jackson wouldn't have much trouble in getting all the major events of the movie into the space of a 3-4 hour movie.

...and if he can't then he can always chop it up and then release an extended version on DVD later on. :)

Yes, he has proven himself worthy like I already said, but I always fear for the worst :(

Going to have to pay close attention to his future projects, too bad his going to waste time on King Kong. :)

Yea...that movie is probably gonna suck.

...unless Kong doesn't fall to his death this time. Poor ape. :(

You're not missing anything. The original one sucks, the more recent one with Daryl Hannah (I think) sucks even more and the Godzilla ones ... well, they are kinda amusing in a really stupid 'man in ape suit vs. man in rubber lizard suit' way. ;)

It would take a genius to turn a King Kong script into a movie worth watching. :p

It will be made, and I think it can work. Jackson really seems to have a feel for the books...so if anyone can pull it off he can.

It might be made, only there is one problem.

Warner Brothers own the rights to the hobbit and are very unlikely to give them up to new line (or whomever made the LoTR films), whether jackson will work with them is debatable.

I suspect that WB will sit on them for a while.

And as stated Jackson is committed to doing Kong till 2005/2006 or something like that so it wouldn't surface till 2008/2009 anyway even if he did make it.

It brings round how Bilbo gets the ring and is a very worthwhile read, and if it doesn't suffer too much "creative editing" could be good.
