If something's out of stock, will it say so on the products description? Or when I click order will I be told I could wait up to 1938278 years for it, and my credit card has been billed?

I'd have thought that if the item's out of stock it would tell you there and then, prior to placing an order.

Most companies will not bill your card until the goods have actually been dispatched.

I recommend play.com

Read a story in the paper today about amazon billing one woman (who ordered 2 books for around £27 inc. VAT & P+P) a total of minus 144 times the GNP of the united states... $9 trillion odd. Made me spill my drink :D

Ah, but you have to counter that with the Star Wars Episode 1 videos which were selling for £1.50 each :)

Took me over a week past release date to get Morrowind, despite having it pre-ordered about 2 weeks prior to release.

Not worried though, cos it saved me a tenner on the local shop prices :)

Wierd. When you look up an audio CD on HMV you can tell whether it's in stock or not (tells you shipping times at the bottom). But it doesn't seem to do it for other items.

I've ordered from HMV a few times (mainly when play.com or cdwow.com hasn't had what I wanted in stock), and always received my stuff very quickly. But I've always followed the golden rule of never ordering anything from a mail order vendor that's out of stock.

If I were you, I'd cancel the order and get it from somewhere that has stock. They haven't despatched yet, so they won't have charged your card.

ps: FF8 was really cack :/

Yeah, i'd checked play.com (the site I usually use) and they had no stock either :/

I had heard ff8 was a "like it or absolutely loathe it" game, but it's only £20 to find out I guess. Is 9 any good?

have to say, i love amazon :)

ordered a couple of CD's i'd had trouble finding anywhere else, despite saying 4-6 weeks they turned up at my door about a week after placing the order. Ordered EQ Thurs night about 10pm, turned up saturday morning :D

I've ordered plenty from amazon (couple of almost £60+ orders of cds at a time) and all have turned up quickly, without any trouble...

that said, i still don't have my copy of bossanova :(

I was indifferent to it :) However, the Cards subgame in FF8 is, in no uncertain terms, a work of fucking genius, so it's worth having for that.

9 was better, but it did what all the FF games do - ie go off on some mental batshit tangent plot about aliens, the 'essence' of people, etc, at which point I gave up. My mate then finished it off, and told me I was only about half an hour from the end - duh. The other problem with 9 was the spell/ability learning system - was too easy to get the uber abilities (Auto-Regen springs to mind in particular).

I'm about 30 hours into FFX, it's pretty good. The subgames are fun (Blitzball's a bit easy, mind), the graphics are awesome. Why, oh why, do Squaresoft persist in making the main character such a fucking wuss though? :) Give me Vincent over Cloud, Amarant over Zidane, or Auron over Tidus any day.

yeah. Totally non-linear for the last half of the game, if you like that sort of thing.
