I'm starting to have second thoughts about this rather retro-looking pinstripe 3-piece suit...too much for an IT job interview? It looked pretty natty in the shop!

I can't decide if I look more like a waiter, a 70-year-old lawyer or an extra from Goodfellas (the film, not the pizza!)

I had to check on the internet to see whether the waistcoat when inside or outside the jacket...I found conflicting opinions but the majority said "inside" so I'm going to go for that.

It's true though, you can't really say how something looks without seeing. Kidna in the word "look"

I'd say that almost everything looks silly when you yourself look at it, you need outside opinions and friends are more then often useless as they don't have the needed honesty.

Not to be mistaken with "honesty" that is misused these days to mean "don't lie unless it might hurt feelings"

It looks like a suit.

Closer look;

It's a fitting suit also, so you kinda pull it off as "every day wear".

If you think it's too formal, you can always just wear the shirt, pants, coat combo and leave the middle bit out. Then when you go inside, you can take the coat off and you're down to pants and shirt, with jacket on arm. Very casual.

Also if they give you the odd look, you can always throw in some small tak about being a busy day, some family thisandthat later, friends bachelor crap etc. Then it would just look like you know how to organise and don't bother with female wardrope changes

Main key here, if you wear it with that attitude, it's a-ok as you wear the suit, not the other way around. Own it and suit up!

What to wear really:
(black preferably) Suit pants, nice white shirt with long sleeves not short i don't care how hot it is, long ... (can have small lines, big lines or whatever just don't have the hawai look or the colorfull modus, forester modus on) . A Tie if everyones wearing one and one that actually matches your white shirt and black pants and offcourse your jacket ... make sure you feel confortable in them otherwise they will notice it asap ...
God, has it come this far that i have to give advice on how to dress

What does worry me is that the corpse you took it off is now naked six feet down, while he wont miss it, the image isnt a pretty one. Sorry but thats the only time I can see black on black going together, or would someone actually buy that as a package?
