my Microsoft Security Essentials just turned itself off, and back on again on my laptop without any input from me. I got a warning from the control center and everything.

should I be worried?

As chilly said, there was an upgrade on Tuesday on wards so if you've auto updates on etc it probably just did it.

Correct. There was a MSE client upgrade in the last M$ patch release. So if you have auto install enabled it would have just restarted itself.

Ran Kaspersky virus tool and it found a rootkit and a trojan in every single exe file, running Trend..useless.
Uploaded a smalll htm file on ftp and it had a huge load of code attached with svchost.exe in the text....holy fuck, that sounds bad.
