[no graphic pictures afaik but may be upsetting]

This was on the news today about a new exhibition in Earls Court

http://www.eco.co.uk/ECO/main.nsf/WebPages/BCAY-6MMM8Z?opendocument

It's called "bodies" and is real human bodies (dead ones) arranged and displayes in poses, organs revealed and the way we work.

When i first heard of it i thought ooooook well if the people who donated their bodies for this are alright with it and its done in a respectfula nd educational way then i guess its ok...

then i hear that people are actually claiming the bodies are from a dubious source i.e possibly executed by the chinese government or worse. so now i'm not sure what to think and i can't find any stories about it.

anyway where the bodies came from is by the by, what i want to know is would you go and see the exhibition?

personally i wouldnt, i've seen plenty of dead people before and some things, once you see it you cant unsee it.

See too many gormless corpse's walking down most high streets these days to be bothered going to look at a non moving bunch tbh...

If they did cool stuff like made puppets out of them and put a show on then maybe I would go...

Bet there is a few people here who wouldn't mind taking one or two of em home as a souvenier as well tbh!!

That sounds just like the Body Worlds exibition, where this crazy German doctor preserved and displayed dead bodies of people (who were donated). I went to see it and it was very interesting, especally if you have an interest in biology. It wasn't gory at all, but then i do have issues...

Must admit, I caught that autopsy program on Channel 4 with that wierd german Dr dude cutting bodies and organs up etc in an attempt to show how stuff works, and how teh people concerned died...

I didn't actually mean to, the idea of the program wasn't one I was comfortable with before but it was actually quite an interesting show and nothing like what I expected. As everything had been pre-cleaned and pre-treated before the program began it wasn't as messy or gory as you would have expected.

As for the exhibition... I suspect that the people hosting this would be severely vetted by the local authorities. Any hint in inpropriaty and they wouldn't be allowed to go ahead. I expect that the source of the 'bodies' will be especially heavily scrutinised to ensure they all come from a legitimate source.

I don't think I would actually go to pay to see one of these things but I don't have any real objections to them if done properly.

Its not really nice looking at a body with no soul.

When or if anyone has seen someone pass away they body is just.... nothing - It's hard to explain.

When me and my mum went on holiday a few years ago my mum was unfortunate to see a downed victim be brought to the beach and revived. But sad enough the women didn't make it. My mother explained to me that how you can just see if someone is dead or not, You feel it.. You can sence it. I belive its when the soul leaves the body theres just nothingness. I don't think I could see that at a musiem(sp).

'cause he's the type of person that judges what is and isn't good for people and what is normal.

He's right.

Always.

Sarcasm might be a bit over the top here.

Ah well, i'd see 'em. Dead people are nice since the soul is long gone and their just vessels.

I went to see the German doctors exhibition in London. Went with a group of med students and it was fascinating. Seeing how everything really was not some attempted model. Not meaning to sound sick but the most amazing part was the premature baby, it really was a perfect baby shrunk.

Another thing that amazed me was people. I read the guest book on the way out and some people really do leave awful messages. Things along the lines of, "What a fucking joke I was bored mindless!" or "That was fucking sick!" etc etc. I also heard of a woman who grabbed a fire axe off the wall and started destroying it because it was "immoral".

Id go see it again...

If it's donated bodies, then I can't see anything immoral with it.

You can say much, but mankind wouldn't have made it far without exploring dead bodies whether it be illness, murder or an accident that has caused the dead.
There's of course much difference, in putting the bodies in a museum for everyone to watch, than in a little closed lab. On the other hand, it's done in the interest of biology, so we that doesn't normally work with this subject, get a greater understanding of why and how.

Hag said it a person dead is compleatly different, literally as soon as they die they change, the skin texture, eyes everything they dont look real.

and the autopsy show was very well made though i couldnt watch most of it but was very good, real autopsies are not something you want to see though tbh its not like on the telly you got all kinds of weird stuff happening.

I`ve seen the exhibition of this von Hagens dude in Cologne a couple years ago. It was interesting, but not that exciting. One thing I don´t like about his exhibitions is, that he claims his work to be a combination of art and science. Using dead bodies as a "material" for art is ethically wrong in my books. If he´d do it for purely educational purposes, then I can´t see anything wrong with it.

Yes, I've been to it too when it was in Cologne. I found it very interesting. They do not present bodies as a whole so you never really get the feeling to look at a person there. At lest it was like that for me. Even the fullbody pieces look more like art than like a corpse.
I found the exhibition very impressive. Its one thing to somewhat know how your body looks and works but its another thing to really see it.

There was one thing thou that was over the top and I really wouldnt have watched it if I had known. There was an extra compartment seperated from the rest of the exhibition where they presented deformed unborns. This was nothing but a freakshow and just disgusting. I strongly advise not to watch that part. :(
