or with your web browser. I don't do this often, but I'd like to invite you all to have a wee look at my site's log (it's not a blog ffs) thing. I've changed it and am now faffing about with the css and stuff. please be so kind as to dream up some constructive critique that I can work with.

some stuff:
  • yes, I didn't make it myself. a bout of laziness got the better of me and I installed a php/mysql driven thing called pLog. the layout as you see it is my personal adaption of a plog template called "blueish" into one that I call "golden".
  • yes, the yellow/orange/gold and black colour scheme is from the previous incarnation of my site. I still like it tbh so it stays. any white text that you see is me faffing. actually I happen to like the contrast it brings. perhaps the white stuff will stay :)
  • piccys I hear you cry? they're not particularly high on my agenda but I may make some. I actually have a couple from my previous effort to make a new site.

I'm all ears. Let me hear it :)

but mooks, listening to busted makes me want to do the most terrible things tbh :)

how do you feel about me using strange fonts that people would have to download and install. that's a no-no imo, but they look nice! I'll get rid of times though. *muddles with fonts*

Serif fonts (i.e. when the characters have little bits added to the ends - times new roman) should only be used for print ... non-serif fonts for web - verdana, tahoma, arial

I dunno itcheh. On the whole, that is absolutely true but there are some exceptions. Large blocks of text (an essay for instance) can tend to be more readable in serif on both screen and print.

As for strange fonts: CSS will let you describe a hierarchy of fonts to use, so downloadable "first choices" are fine, just make sure you've got a pleasant second choice.

I have no idea where you are in terms of WebDev TeeDee, so for sake of reference to all, you do it like this:
Code:
body {
   font-family: "TeeDeeLicious Sans Unicode", "Lucida Grande", "Tahoma", "Arial", sans-serif;
}

The last item, the "sans-serif" is a generic font type that lets the browser use the user's default sans-serif font choice. It's always wise to have it as the last item in any font style definition, but can also be used as the sole specified font (along with "serif" and another for monospacing).

Enjoy.

I've changed the fonts. Had a bit of a fiddle, as the div that controls the blog content already had a font-family, but didn't change fonts as it should have. I've now added the font to the highest level div, which didn't have a font-family, and all seems cool.
