Well, yes but lets hope no one ever does something to make us drop Atom bombs on them again :p

Interesting fact, the bomb dropped on Hiroshima was the equivalent to 30,000 tons on TNT, modern nukes are in the range of million of tons of TNT.

Actually been compared to the difference between a stick of dynamite and a matchstick

Nukes aren't newsworthy until they go off, unfortunately.

Nukes are one of the things we should un-invent along with a good number of other nasty things that humanity came up with in order to kill humans. :/ (VX-Gas, Bio- and Chemical weapons, etc.)

Me no comprende!! The post originally linked to points that out and I think you could classify reuters as a big news agency ;)

maybe saying "little boy" which exploded over hiroshima was a lot smaller than "fat man" even though hiroshima was more widely devostated, it was fat man that ended the war (i think thats what tohtori was meaning)

and yes we should hope and pray(to any god that will listen) that it never happens again.

Atually what i meant is that people most often forget about nagasaki, bring up hiroshima as a big event, or sideways glance at the nagasaki event.

Like that article:

Oh and three days later nagasaki got one too.

Just what i mean...should talk about both events, but probably people wont.

You gotta remember that the nukes droped saved lives to.

Projected American losses for a land invasion of main land japan was 1 million+. Also take into account Japanese losses and droping the A-bomb probably saved a couple of million lives.

You cant talk in 'what if's' tho can you? Many historians will also say that Japan was about to surrender anyway, but that also isnt important. What is important is the loss of lives that actually were caused by the bombings and remebering the lessons so hopefully it never happens again.

the difference being: military lives and civilians. the civilians of hiroshima were (for the most part) innocent.. and had no bearing on the war

Bit like 9/11, London, Madrid, Baslan

They were all civilians too

the thought of any innocent people dying in war always makes me shudder, all the innocent people that are casualties of war deserve to be honored by us not doing it again, however by saying this i realise how completely naieve this sounds and that its never going to happen.

soldiers sign up to do the war thing as part of their job, civillians always get caught up in it and are made to pay the price and yes i have heard the "spare a few innocent lives in order to save the many" arguement and yes it does make sence but its still not right.

so weather you were incinerated in hiroshima or nagasaki, got bombed in the blitz, shot in korea, gassed in aushwitz or your milk float ran over a land mine in the faulklands however and where ever you died in any war heres to you and may your memory go towards making a better planet

and fgs no more sodding wars please
