Red Dwarf is QUALITY! One of my fave episodes is "Backwards".
However, I wasn`t too keen on the last couple of seasons where they seemed to have spent a bit more on the shows, they`ve lost that cheap "tacky" humour and gone a bit upmarket with the props.

Yup, the last 2 series (7 & 8) of Red Dwarf where not that good, although 8 was a big improvement on 7, which was shit.
However, every series before that was pure brilliance.

How could I have forgotten about Bottom.

Great British anarchic humour at its best.

The Young Ones was definitely a great seies. I doubt if it would travel well though, and the US networks don't have a great record on 'converting' brit shows for their own audience.

I don't think 'The Young Ones' has aged too well. Last time I watched it I don't think a cracked a smile at all...

I remember a show that aired on Comedy Central a few years ago about a bunch of older chicks, all friends. Can't remember the name of the show for the life of me, but I saw a couple of episodes and they were pretty decent. I remember them drinking a bit in the show.

Bottom is classic :) To quote something that some highly intelligent american said
"Nothing but immature fart jokes"
or was that the sp movie ?
Either way, it is facking hilarious, as is Guesthouse Paradiso : all bottom fans must go rent the vid ;)

As for american remakes of brit classics : hardly suprisingly that red dwarf USA was canned after only one showing and they started showing the uk versions ;)

Well I really liked most of Bottom but I thought Guest House Paradiso was a bunch of arse. Just a crap Faulty Towers ripoff. Then again, I never liked Faulty Towers much either...

My all time favourite comedy series are still Red Dwarf and Blackadder. I would agree that Red Dwarf went down hill after series 6 but still, there aren't many British sitcoms that can last for 6 series and still make me laugh out loud.

That's one thing that's always surprised me actually - the major difference between US and UK sitcoms is the amount of episodes. I sometimes wonder, if there were as many episodes of The Young Ones as there have been of Friends, would anyone remember it with as much affection? If Faulty Towers had run for 500 episodes (like Roseanne) instead of about 25, would anyone still be watching episode 498?

[edit]Oh yeah, and I forgot to throw Men Behaving Badly into the mix, because that's another favourite of mine. (But that may have been foolish of me...)[/edit]

Why is it that your TV shows hold my attention more than our American shows?

When I was young, "Benny Hill", "Monty Python's Flying Circus", "Dr. Who", "Danger Mouse", and "The Tomorrow People" kept me glued to the set.

A few years ago it was "Chef" (a riot!), "Are You Being Served", and "Who's Line Is It Anyways?"

I rarely watch TV nowadays, but when I do, I try to find a nice British comedy or cartoons (South Park, Looney Toons, any Anime series, ect...). You guys make some great shows, send more!

BTW... anyone know of a good site with info on The Tomorrow People?

South Park is not British.
