So not many football threads here since the entertainment forums got axed, but this deserves a mention.

Henry's gone to Barca, and we not longer get to see his brilliance in the premiership. Still watching Arse impode is going to be quite funny. To my knowledge Rosicky, Fagregas and Wallcott all linked their futures to Henry, and said they joined arse to play with him. Fagregas went as far to say he would follow henry wherever he went for the rest of his career. I wonder who will be next out of the door there.

Its a shame, I really like the guy. I don't feel as bad as I did last season when he was meant to be going but its a massive loss and I can see Spurs overtaking Arsenal now.

Sad to see him leave tbh he is a first class player , tho wont miss him riping Liverpool apart at will , good luck to him , would this have happened if Mr Dein was still at Arsenal ?

I'm a bit shocked at this one. Not that he left, more where he went. Going by what he'd said in the press I would have expected him to go to Milan (although his previous stint in Italy wasn't exactly mega) - I would have thought at this point in time playing alongside Kaka would be far more tantalising than playing with Ronaldinho (who may be on his way to Milan anyway). They also have some bloke called Ronaldo who aint useless either. Still can't hold anything against Hentry, he's been a Gunners hero and brightened up the Premiership for many a year now, you can't blame him for wanting a new challenge. It's a massive blow for the Premiership though, we can only hope someone buys someone equally exciting to watch - or even better, we see the real Andriy Shevchenko next season, as he was just as beguiling for Milan as Henry was for Arsenal.

I read the Henry interview in GQ this month and he was very much "never leaving Arsenal" in opinion. I guess things change.

Well I'm obviously gutted but nothing surprises me in football anymore. However it's rather disappointing after stories like this, and quotes like...

The transfer fee is fairly ridiculous too. Obviously you can't compare one player to another but is Henry really worth just 1 Darren Bent, or half a Shevchenko?

I cried like a little girl when Vieira left but now I'm just massively depressed, and praying that Wenger has some sort of plan. He only has the one year left on his contract and I don't expect he'll extend that so surely he wouldn't make a huge decision like this without having some sort of idea in his head of how to replace/move on from the Henry era.

Wasn't he on a £120k a week at Arse anyway? Henry honestly sounds upset that Dien has gone, and obviously has an idea of how much longer Wenger will stay for as well. Arsenal have shown no ambition, and Henry has warned them enough times that he wants to win more titles, they have done nothing to help him feel like they can.

totally agree, football this season has been less than entertaining for Arsenal this season and have really missed Tierry.

Only entertainers this year has been Drogba and Ronaldo


Oh and also, I hear Schevchenko's going before the start of the next season....

Reckon the whole Dien thing was a bit of a face-saving excuse tbh; after saying he'd never leave he needed a justification. Fact is he wants more titles and while Arsenal are still in this 'rebuilding' phase, he's not likely to get them. Sad to see him go though, even though I can't stand Arsenal he's a joy to watch. Going to be interesting to see how Barca use him, as he tends to play the lone striker role.

Big question is, will Arsenal replace him? And if so, who? Owen maybe? Can't see the gooners stumping up the big bucks for someone like Tevez.

Hardly: its little different to what hes on now. Any difference in additional sponsorships etc when in Spain vs England will make more difference to his earnings.

Of the 2 people he trusted in power at the club 1 has gone and 1 isnt committed to staying. They are currently showing no signs of improving their squad to challenge for any titles nevermind the Champions League.

Hes 29, normally time for the last big move of a players career. He cant spend another season or 2 at Arsenal waiting to see what happens. Time to go while he can.

And as for people comparing transfer fees: comparing a 23 year old to a 29 year old makes no sense. One has resale value, one doesnt. Only the Chelseas of the world dont take that into account.

Even just an extra £10,000 a week mounts up - over £500,000 extra a year.

I do think the chance to play with the likes of Eto'o and Ronanldinho was probably the main factor though.
