Helping Newbies.....

....like me.

I just played my 6th game of Tribes. It went ok I guess. A nice bloke from [HH] helped me set up my favourites and told me how to ski. I was quite surprised - up until then the normal response to a request for help ranged from utter silence to 'fuck off'.
I was getting into the swing of things - dying lots but seemed to be getting to grips with stuff like repairing and flying properly.
Then the server filled up...and I watched in stunned silence as all the clanned people joined one team - swopping in some cases - and went on to systematically beat the crap out of my team and our base.
Is this supposed to encourage new players? do they find it fun to destroy a team that has no chance in hell of fighting back? Totally pissed myself I watched as first one person left with merry 'fuck this' then a few more, then i to having had enough and learning nothing left to find a better server.
Is this normal for tribes? Am I likely to be confronted my hopelessly unbalanced teams whenever I play? If so tell me and I'll quit while I'm ahead.

Unfortunately, this happens a lot at the moment. People are slightly intolerant of newbies, especially when their own base is being trashed

However, don't quit just yet. There are plenty of 'good guys' around, many of whom are server admins, and can help you out.

There is also a guide for newbies over at www.tribesplayers.co.uk which you may find of some use.

Don't be discouraged by a few stupid people... If you can remember their nicks or tribe tag then stick them up on this thread, they'll soon stop doing it then...

if you do come up against this caper. Just remember that all these "clanned" people were newbies at some stage, we all were. Stick at it m8, we always need new players.

I've only been playing for a month and hadn't really noticed this despite hearing about it quite a bit. However, a week or so ago, it happened and I could do nothing about it as I wasn't using my {LTS} tags. People don't listen to untegged players. However, last night I joined a server where I was on a team of about 6 tagged players against 3 untagged players. I just said "even things up lads" and amazingly they listened. Some people switched to the other team, me included and I did notice how very suddenly those tagged, supposedly better players began to fall away and drop. It only takes one tagged guy to speak up and it often gets sorted. Unfortunately though, it won't stop. Anyway, that's my two (or 20) cents worth.

I've been playing this for 2 weeks now having been separated from a computer for over a year and you're right, it can be daunting at first but you will find that if you speak up - unless their a bunch of gits - the others should accomodate you. Its all very well being on a winning team and kicking arse but some of us like a challenge so evening out the teams tends to make it a better game for all.
