Hello you bunch of big kids, i kinda need a favour, a really big one!

Does anyone know of any traditional games [board games etc.. / puzzles] (pref. made out of wood or some other old looking material) that would keep 10-14 year olds entertained and isn't stupidly long/hard to play?

Got to start collecting tat for my next fest (larping) and i'm at a bit of a loss..

Cheers in advance.

(and yes the toys are for me..)

Mey the biggest kid of them all :D

Jenga is always fun, take out the blocks one by one untill tower falls down, not recommended for people with parkinsons though. Easy to play, can get in indoor small ones for a coffee table etc or the fo big ones for the garden.

Kerplunk.... great for kids cos it takes ages for them to set up. Shit for adults who buy it for a party night and everyone is too pissed to be bothered to set it up.

Twister. Great for kids to keep them moving around n burning up energy. Shit for adults if like my mate you slip, kick the fireplace the mat was next to, and break your toe.

games made out of wood? could try cricket or lawn bowls...you need a big room for the board though...

on a more serious note, I always used to like Scrabble...easy to understand the rules, but you might need to specify whether you'll allow txtspk or l3375p34kloln00broflcopter in advance. If you have a proper Oxford English Dictionary (hardback) then that can be used to administer sufficient justice to anyone trying to put something like "meights" or "rofl" on a triple-word tile.

hehe...how about Magic: The Gathering?

Or do they make the cards out of plastic? I've never actually sunk so low as to play. I'm presuming it's like Top Trumps, but takes longer to play?

Do they have to be made of wood or just good games to keep kids entertained?

ooo! that looks fun

my friend had a cluedo made specially for their family, was a bit odd, had their faces carved on the models and cards bit freaky especially as her sister looks like a manitee:touch:

Having seen the price of those table top skittle thingies, i think the connect four made out of wood i saw is the winner ... unless anyone can find a cheap table top skittles set that looks decent.. max say 20-30 quid..

Ye kids don't seem to understand, the toys are for me and a mate (we play 14-15 year old kids) and it gets boring siting about watching everyone save the world so i thought i'd buy some games to play whilst we waited and got pissed on booze stolen from the bar..

Always used to love Malefiz as a youngster, was a german board game that me mate owned. Think the english version is called Barricade or summit.
