I recently changed to w2k and love its stability in most things! Other than CS.

The problem is locking and repeating the last sound endlessly.
I have to reboot to get anything going ....
Sound card is SB live 1024
grfx card is Hercules prophet 200mx
512 133 ram /AMD 800(yup a slot A unfortunately)
Got the l8st drivers for sound and grafx also Win 2k service pack
Any ideas would be much appreciated

i have the same problem with my 2k machine.

i searched the counter-strike.net forums and found lots of people with the problem (various os's: 98, 98se, me, 2k, xp) and nobody with the solution :/

oh and about 6 million people asking for a cd-key (musnt want to go crazy and spend £10 on hl)

i just thought someone somewhere might have the answer because it isnt related to any particular os or hardware setup, seems to be 1.3 is even worse than i thought :(

The trouble with Windows 2K and indeed any NT based Operating System is that it handels the packets of data differently to the windows 9.x based systems.
Windows 2K has been prooven to "loose" packets of data around here and there which can explain those problems of yours and also explain those times where you fill an opponent at close range with 2 clips of an AK47 and he just pulls out a pistol *bang bang you die* moments :)
Basically, If you are a gamer go back to Windows 98.
Although it is a crappy Operating System is is the best for games.
Dont go to WinME though coz that just plainly sucks :p

That last post has the highest bullshit quotient I ever seen in a mail so congrats Vagour :)

Anyway, if you have an AMD (and I am guessing you do) its caused by a bug and there is a registry patch for it. If you still want the fix then mail me at ceno@ceno.co.uk and I will mail you the link (its at home).

Linux is a great Gaming OS if you like your quake. The new nvidia generic Linux drivers came out last week, and they're brilliant, a match for windoze gaming easily.

Allthough when i get HL to run in wine without crashing some of you may be more inclinded to beleave me :p
