it's died :(

last few days my PC won't boot, it was POSTing but there was no signal to the monitor and it kept flicking back and forth through digital/analog mode. I unplugged the power cable yesterday, plugged it back in and all I had was a quiet but high pitched beep which only happens if the PSU is connected to the mains. The PC no longer POSTs but does boot up, all fans etc are whirring and the like.

it's an Athlon 64 3500+ on an Asus A8V Deluxe, GeForce 7600GT (AGP) and stuff.

Aye.
Failing that, remove all the memory and turn on - hopefully it should beep at you in complaint, which will confirm you're motherboard and processor are (probably) working fine.

Then the usual rigmorole of unplugging everything unecesssary and trying with only the bare essentials. If you've another video card or means to borrow another, give it a try.

Apart from trying what has been suggested, can you also reset the bios?

Kryten.... I see the therapy is working.

Could be faulty memory? If you've got more than one stick, try one at a time?
