Don't go for a "excuse", talk to your boss(whoever), co-workers.

Try to get a stand in, try to get off by saying that "some plans came up out of the blue".

your shift isn't on paper so it's not a legal cause to fire you.

Depends ofcourse, if you're the only doctor at the local charity hospital...

Tell them the truth and see if they can rearrange the shift, quite likely (provided you aren't a total git to your co-workers) that someone will cover for you for something like that.

in a physical sense they are.

i did give 2 weeks notice that i need the weekend off for something, then that plan fell through. so i had the days off for no reason so i thought i may aswell work. so she wrote down times in the schedule for me to work, so i did in effect volunteer to go in.

"woman's problems" seems to work without any questions, so give "mans problems" a go :)

Tell them you have antidisestablishmentarianism - Nobody at McD's could possibly understand, its too long to comprehend and you'll automatically get a week off.

Isn't that "Against not creating a building for fat ladies to sing in-ism"? :eek7: In other words being FOR the building?

Anti(against)dis-establishment(not creating a building)-aria(a song sung by fat lady)-ism.

lol Imagine telling them someone in your family died then a few months later they actually did, man you'd look like a fool if you had to book time off for a real reason.
