Help me to improve this caster template

I thought I'd toy around with the new ml10 items a bit since they not only have nice stats, but unique procs and /use aswell. Plus I prefer running a personalized template instead of something that everyone uses. So, this is what I came up with and I'm unable to tweak it to make any better. Tbh only things that could be improved are the hits (356/400) and constitution (80/100). Even though some people like to run with higher AF aswell, I don't find it that helpful (actually I barely notice any difference with 0 or 50 AF bonus) that I would waste some other utility over it. Also, I know it's missing some "classic" caster template items such as Maddening Scalars or Bracer of Zo'arkat, but personally i do not think they're worth squeezing them in only for the /use (the staff also has fumble /use like boz).

Here are the requirements for this template of mine.

-do not remove ml10 items (robe, legs, staff +cloak), not only they have cool /use and procs, but you can also summon the cloak without swapping (cloak has cure mez)

-i want the crown of zahur/croc ring combo (mana tether with croc ring is superb as I mostly run solo/duo)

-dex and int must be 101, hits 300~+, resists 20%~+, skills (or light) capped, con 75+, spell range, piercing and damage 10%, cast speed 10%.

-eriny's charm is nice, but not a musthave if you can fill the required stats w/o it

Someone didn't read the new patch notes :D

You just need all three items on to summon the cloak and after that you can swap out two for other items.. Only one item besides the cloak must stay on at all times for it not to disappear

# Astral Weapons and Armor have been increased in utility. The changes are retroactive and are a work in progress on Pendragon. A partial list of changes include:

* Astral Weapons have the same to hit bonus that Artifacts, Champion and Slayer weapons have.
* Many class restrictions placed on stats and other bonuses have been removed.
* Breastplates are the only item that needs to be worn after summoning the Astral Cloaks. Weapon, Leggings and Breastplate must still be worn to summon the Cloaks.
* Many existing procs have been enhanced or altered for better performance in RvR. Example: Skin of Iron now behaves as a persistent effect while Astral Leggings of Fortification are worn.
* Most Astral Weapons and Armor have been given a secondary charge or proc.

But someone who replied to my post didn't read what I wrote ;)

Ok the point is that I know that you can swap the items after summoning the cloak, but why bother since the stats and especially uses on the items are as good as they are :)

The staff I could toss but can't fit any of the others in.

EDIT: 5% magic resists bonus on the legs stack with champ resists (unlike ring of azure) and is AOE aswell. Not only that, but the stats are awesome too.

Oh. The cure mez has 150 radius. Prolly won't work like purge though (can't use if you are mezzed yourself). Need to test it.

The ideas are nice, though and I might use some of these things to change my Animist temp. It has 100 less hits, but some arcane siphon, zo'arkat, capped AF and well, the astral staff has no mana charge :/

My only problem atm is, that I'm using Cloudsong as cloak, which has a rather crap utility, so I want to change that ... but then I'm lacking casting speed *grumble*

But hey, your temp gave me quite some nice ideas =)

Quick reply to you my dear friend (Fin-US Olympics hockey about to start);

What about Zo? The pets? I've used it like 10 times in the past year overall (either timer is down or there's no use for it vs tank). But you should be able to squeeze it in if you REALLY want the zo pets, I did it on one version.

Zahur crown has Arcane Siphon aswell as /use2.

Test 50 AF vs 0 AF. It doesn't effect much at all. We just tested the new ML10 /uses with Tt. Though I do not rely on charges in RvR, they quite rocked tbh.

EDIT: PS, you can always use MCL items on wpn/shield slot (such as Buckler of Crystalline Mist) for extra MCL. I do.

Yessss and the ml10 staff fumble debuff isn't AOE + it lasts 10 seconds and it was reduced from 50% to 35% on pendragon. Which is also why zo is still vastly superior since its aoe/25% fumble+miscast/700 radius/30 seconds especially given how many meleers will come out of the wood work for these essence weapons.

Edit: i'd also like to add the duration on the ml10 fumble debuff is effected by targets body resists so heavy tanks with capped resists/resist buff + aom it'll probably last 5-6 seconds tops.

PS: It's kinda sad that it has come to this that ppl can actually tell whether I can RvR or not based on if I have a certain item (or /use) in a template :(

I might aswell say that if you don't get those legs into a template (5% all magic resists perma bonus) you don't know anything about templates... But I won't since that's not the case.

Well, i'd wait if I were you alot of those weapons/items will either be drasticly changed or won't make it to live due to being very op'd.

i'd have said use Ring of the Azure aswell for the melee resist buff stats are similar to tempest you can probably work it in, definatley worth having :p also if you use that ring you can probably drop kraken belt for something else given it has 50 hits cap (if anything else fits) other than that i'm unsure what else you could change.

Don't think anyone is saying if you can rvr or not, they're merely giving suggestions on how to improve the template? Which was the point of this topic i thought? BoZ is really nice and can be a lifesaver if used properly, ditching it in a caster template is kinda silly imo. :p

Heheheee =) I told you that your temp was great for giving me nice ideas =)

My personal tests with +AF for bolts were rather positive (in favour for +AF).

As was already mentioned in a not so nice way, BoZ is really good for the fumble, which also works on ML9 BD pets ;)

Now what I came up with for me is the following. It doesn't have the CTR+CoZ combo and it doesn't use the full ML10 set, but it has everything I need. +9 or +11 all magic doesn't really matter, as I have 50 in arboreal and soon +16 from items and RR. As Eldritch you could also exchange the staff I'm using withe the staff that gives +10% debuff bonus.

I know it's what you were looking for, but I'm glad your template gave me all these ideas =) I'm still not happy with the belt/bracer, but it's hard to fit in the dex cap and the AF. Maybe you've got an idea.

Well, i'd wait if I were you alot of those weapons/items will either be drasticly changed or won't make it to live due to being very op'd.

i'd have said use Ring of the Azure aswell for the melee resist buff stats are similar to tempest you can probably work it in, definatley worth having :p also if you use that ring you can probably drop kraken belt for something else given it has 50 hits cap (if anything else fits) other than that i'm unsure what else you could change.

They are already live in US (already using the template). Azure ring has 10% magic resists (that don't stack with champ buffs), Tarka'Oz has 10% melee. I also tried to squeeze the ring in anyway but wasn't able to get as good stats than without it. I also definately can put the Zo'arkat bracer in but will lose some hits and resists.

Liloe that's a decent temp to run, though I'm more easily satisfied what it comes to temp (I still like to think that the way you play matters more than the temp you run). I should load it to my calculator to toy it around a bit, but after this quick peek I'd suggest that if AF is a priority then you could try to squeeze in maybe either Katorii's Shroud (20AF, 32 hits cap, 32 hits and 5% melee resists) or Steel feather cloak (40 AF, 15 dex, 1% melee resists). This way you can get the AF requirement off from some items > then maybe swap the belt to Traldor's belt and this way you get pretty free slot for ring etc.

There are quite a few ways to improve that I think, good start though.

Do you know if the dragon mythirian quest spell range stacks on the 10%? so it would be 11?

there are things that are a must in a temp, like 10% cast speed or even having boz and for a eld 25/25 debuff bonus and sepll duration is a must.

would you use a druid temp with no healing bonus?

An odd comment...

Well as people have already stated BoZ is kinda a must in a caster template. The pets are in a fg vs fg fight usually very useful. If not then the fumble is great, but this has been noted to death already!:)

Anyway

For me there are 2 things that bug me (dont missunderstand me, its a great idea for a template as Liloe stated!:), first off Id love to get 50 af in or close to it, and im probably the only one still thinking this, but I want CB in my caster temps. :) I know its generally considered that if you play it right you wount need the mez/stun blocks, but I still find them extremly useful often. Taking pressure of the pac/aughelaer to clear messes, or when you solo keeping stealthers from getting the upperhand with the first cc.

Otherwise a really nice template.

I know everyone is banging on about it, but BoZ is really good both grp and solo. I've had a vendo zerker chain fumble thru his charge (how much hps saved?) other tanks fumble enuff to live between quickcasts while being bashed.

Re: spell duration. Mael has 25% on dyvet - and has had in templates for ages, ahead of my time imho - but like 6% on ywain. Playing again, it makes *loads* of difference, stuff is stunned for ages, one extra nuke inside a stun. Any new template I do that's not purely for grp will defo have that 20%+. Also saves money on end pots, less rebuffing, charges last longer...

50AF is like 6-7% dps reduction over 0AF? You can test it easy with spec bolts in a duel.

Have a browse at the rogs before/during templating, I never really bothered, but now with so much choice templating it's not hard to fit one or even 2 in. I got a ring yesterday for 2plat with 19AF and 13% spell duration, plus like 13 con and 6% heat. Solved capping AF and dur in new template. That was without stalking the CMs over a period of time, I reckon looking for a while will get something better.

Now this discussion is getting to a point - templates are personal and tailored to serve the players needs and playstyle.

It is impossible to cater all tastes. Get in what you want and think you need. If you are an experienced player, you know what you want and what suits you better.

Yes I agree with most of what you all say with BoZ and even what Charmangle says with CB, but as stated, it is just impossible to have everything the community wants. That's why I always to templates to all of my chars myself.

If your playstyle would be involving being a part of an rvr group, the matter is of course different, where their say would have to count aswell

Basicly what I really was asking for was suggestion/ideas to replace the ring/belt slots etc statswise.

Here's what I can come up with by losing the ml10 cloak (aoe cure mez gone :/ ) and squeezing BoZ in. Got few hitpoints more but lost few points of con and a few % resists. You can get a little more utility by using darkspire dex bracer instead of CB though, but as (Charmangle) said earlier the stun/mez blocker can come handy too.
