Ahem, actually making some virtual spring cleaning and needed some advice on removing all explorer related stuff from this personal hellhole. The deeper the clean up, the better. So go technical on my ass. I know stuff, just not how to use the knowledge :p

Also tips and tricks on speeding up the computer, in other words, removing dirt from the wheels of ye old pc would be appreciated.

That's not a clean disk at all...
To make a disk moderately clean your best option is a piece of software the name of which escapes me at the moment, but I'll find it tomorrow.

About the only way to make sure nothing is recoverable from a disk is to crush the plates to dust.

I reckon a nuke would do the job as well!

But ya know, I think people would be more concerned if ya didn't have even a wee smidgen of pr0n on your hd/d! They'll be looking at you all queer like and mutter to eachother, "That lad is a strange 'un! Bugger ain't got no pr0n on his hd/d, like. Clean as a whistle...must be one of them fruity types!"

But you don't live in Dorset so you may not have that problem...

1) www.lavasoft.de - get AdAware, update it, run it with smart scan, remove all objects.

2) http://shareware.pandasoftware.com/shareware/titan4shuk.exe - Antivirus Software. It will start updating itself if you're connected to teh internet. Scan, etc.

3) Defrag, Defrag, Defrag. Do this on all the partitions.

4) Start - Run - type in "msconfig". Go to the Startup tab and remove suspicious entries. Like dialers, Precision Time, Date Manager, Gain, BonzifuckinBuddy, etc etc. Crap that selfinstalls thru explorer crap.

5) Piece of advice. Use an alternative browser, like Opera.

6) Stop browsing these forums.

Sounds like he needs one of these... (sorry... got carried away farting about with Photoshop earlier)

PS. The JPEG artefacts are horrible, but I had to compress it down to file attachment limit.

Best way to clear out all those, ahem, accidentally downloaded files is to transfere them onto CD/DVD (if you got it). Then you do one of the following (if you got em)

1. System restore to an earlier setup, clearing u all the eronious files and deleting them (dont save the setup, just let it go away).

2. Scrub the HDD and reinstall. Then, before adding programs, use Norton ghost to make a copy of your setup onto CD (most OS's less than 700mb when installed). Thatway if it happens again (or something worse), it takes 10 mins to restore the OS instead of 1 hour.

3. Get all those conning programs that "gruarantee" to remove all "nudge nudge wink wink" material. (not recomended, they all suck balls worse than the material they claim to get rid of).

4. The final solution is to follow option 2, then add firewalls and popup blockers etc, as well as unhiding all your hidden directories and adding shortcuts to them (deleting all the content directly, [how many MB have you looked at lately]).

Appart from that, i know sod all on the issue.
