I desperately need some help with CS. Every time I try to connect to an internet game the following happens.

It takes me to the console screen where it says it has accepted WON authentication.

Then it finds the IP address and says connection accepted.

BUT then the timer continues to count down and nothing I can do gets me into the game. I have tried reinstalling everything and have got the latest patches. It used to work but now I cant get into any games.

I do, however, get an error message saying something about an IPX problem and that the reason is WSNOSOCK what ever that means.

My modem is a HSP K56Flex. I am using AOL6.0. Please help I need to play CS. I NEED TO PLAY IT NOW!

:puke: :puke: AOL:puke: :puke:

MWGHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHh ROFL

Okay now to help, lets see shite modem +plus shite connection.

The answer is clear you are forever banned from online gaming.

Okay shite jokes aside when it gets to the countdown bit type /retry and then press enter, it will start teh connection attempt again and this time should not time out.

The problem is you have a shite modem and a shite connection and they can not join the server fast enough, retry will get u in, may ahve to do it a few times though.

EDIT > Just an after thought, when I was on a modem sometimes using CS's ingame browser gave me problems, use gamespy or such to connect to games, its a lot easier.

This time I ALMOST agree with Chetan.

I had a similar problem - buut I had a "fairly" decent modem with all tweaks I could find applied.

The problem was with the PC. It would timeout from connecting to the server for the first time I tried to connect to any game. Any connection after that was usually ok.

To resolve this (after weeks of pain) was to buy a new pc. Now I connect first time every time.

;)

What a great idea - buy a new PC. Of course the £1500 price tag for a good gaming pc is no problem. I'll just sell my Omega. Anyway, I have just done a clean install of my "knackered" pc so I am going to see if that has resolved the problem. It has really annoyed the hell out of me to waste the past 3 hours saving my various files and uploading them to the INet. Damnit!

think you have been drinking too much vodkamartini.

Where did the £1500 price tag come from?

ARRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHH!!! I have just spent the last few hours doing a clean install and it still DOESNT WORK. I cant get into ANY CS games.

The error message that it brings up before counting down is:

COULD NOT GET IPX SOCKET NAME, IPX DISABLED.
REASON: WSAENOSOCK.

Any thoughts. Please!

Yes read my first fucking post I told you what to fucking do without suggesting a new pc.

The ipx thing happens to everyone, your not meant to play cs over the net with ipx, its for lan games.

Ditch AOL... GET BARRYDIAL!!!

Dude

Have you tried to connect to a game using the console?? You must enable console by putting "-console" (without speech marks) into the command line of the CS icon. Once in CS, go to console and type in "connect 213.xxx.xxx.xxx" or "connect csserver.barrysworld.com:27032" or what ever the IP address/port/dns name of the server is.

See if that works....

Also on the desktop of your PC, right click on IE5 icon and go to properties. Now make sure that you have a default connection set and that it will only redial if no connection is present.

Now chill out, try the above and report back...

OK

Cool

go to the shortcut for CS.

go to properties

go to the "shortcut" tab

in the target line, add -noipx to the command line. This MIGHT help

if you arent using a joystick, also add -nojoy

No harm in trying it

Replying to Vodkamartinis reply

all you need to do is add ipx/tcp protocol in your network settings, this will get rid of the waensock error message

but i cant see it stopping you from connecting,

try it anyways

network properties
add protocol
microsoft
ipx/tcp

IPX will not wotk over the net for cs games, that error is meant to come up, if you add the -noipx line it stops CS looking for ipx and thus giving the error message, will not stop u from connecting though. Basically AOL suck for gaming, once u do get into a game (using /retry) you will find your ping will truly suck.

WhenI was forced to use AOL last year I hardly ever managed to connect to servers, sometimes after 5 retries. When I got in my ping ranged from 330 to 500, its really not worth it.

Yep, youre right. AOL sucks but I have switched to a different modem (external) and it works fine even if the ping still sucks. What is the best "FREE" ISP for the UK??? I am getting pings of 450 at the moment.

Barrysdial's not free.

See what companies are i your area, I had telwests dialup for a while very good service.

TBH you are already spending 14 a month on AOL free, you could spend 25 and get cable if you are in a cable area.
