Hi all!

Sorry for posting this in loads of posts - didnt see there was a "Technical Help" section - oopsie! :)

Ive just decided to come back to DAoC after giving up for a while and now i cant get the game to load up properly!

I have no clue when it comes to computers so bear with me....

I got a new computer which has:

Pentium 4
3.2 GHz Processor
512 MB Ram
ATI Radeon 9200

(I know this cos i read it off the box! Typical woman here...)

So anyway, the game is loading up fine - ive made my character, but when i load it into the game straight away all the walls and floor goes see-through - i can still see all the other NPC's and other characters floating about, but when i move it blurs them all. I cannot see any of the boxes on the screen at all but i can read the writing fine when people cast spells etc.

The options menu at the start up screen is see-through too, and it flickers like mad so i cant read anything.

Anyone able to help me? I dont know if i need to change any of the settings on the gfx card or anything - its all at the default.

Any help would be great cos im dying to get back into the game again!

Thanks!

I can think of 3 possible reasons:

1) Some game files got corrupted. (Unlikely but hit the "Do a complete file-check" box at the start anyways.)

2) Your DirectX installation is corrupt. (Download and reinstal here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx?url=/windows/directx/downloads/default.htm)

3) Your graphic card driver is making problems. (Download the newest driver here: http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html)

Ok i shall try these - its a brand new computer just bought yesterday with the graphics card already in it ready to go so surely it cant be its drivers? I'll try the direct x thing tho cos i only installed direct x today so maybe they've mucked up.

I hate this - im desperate to play!

Im standing in Goth at the moment and i see no floor at all - just water - the boat goes by me sometimes - i dont know why the walls and floor keep mucking up!

could also be that it's running on Windows' generic videodriver, or the (most times very crappy) drivers from the graphiccard CD..
so... I'd advise you to install the newest drivers from previously mentioned site anyway :)

Okies - ive installed DirectX again (The new one) and i ran a complete file check - but nothing has changed.

I managed to put it into windows mode (even with the flickering of the options menu!) but it made no difference.

I noticed this time that the second in load into game, the game looks perfect, but then everything just sort of fades. Also, i moved about a little, and i seem to leave a "trail" behind me which fades away - im able to move perfect with no lag - just this weird graphic trail thingy (Hope that makes sense!)

What setting should i have on my graphics card? I havent changed any since i got it as i dont know what to change - should i turn any bits up, turn any bits off etc? Maybe this could be the problem?

The effect you describe is called HoM. Hall of Mirrors. If it is neither caused by a corrupt DirectX nor a faulty driver then your graphics card is severly damaged.

Damn! Really?! I just bought the computer!

U sure i dont need to do something like turn up the 3D Graphics or turn up the Open GL or something?

Im downloading the drivers for the graphics card just now but im a bit weary of playing about with the drivers for it incase i feck it up!

You cant do anything wrong with the drivers.

And yes, if installing new drivers doesnt help then the card is broken. I could go into detail about how images are created by the renderpipelines of the card but and what is going wrong with yours but that wouldnt actually help you would it? :)

If the new driver doesnt help get the card replaced.
