So my brand spankingly new Galaxy 5 phone keeps locking up in sleep mode, black screen no reaction what so ever even when connecting the charger.

Browsed around and read that it was a firmware issue with android 2.1 and that installing 2.2 would fix it (2.3 will apparently not be available to this phone).

Problem is that i can't find a "how to" for dummies. :(

So can anyone explain how to do this for me in a easy to understand way?

Nevermind, found Samsung Kies, basically just plug in the phone and it will tell you if there's a firmware update and do it for you.

Happy now :)

Ok i have another issue here, i have a battery life (idle) of about 24 hours....

No background apps running that i can see, no WiFi or bluetooth.

It wasn't like this right when i bought it but after about a week i had to recharge battery once a day because it kept running out...

I do have one of those refiller cards whatever there called in a real language and that's empty atm, i did connect my gmail and FB account to the phone before i ran out of cash on the sim, could it be that that drains battery so bloody much because it can't connect to it but somehow keeps trying anyway?

Closing down apps won't really make a difference to your battery life. It's been said many times before; android has very good memory management, those apps are held in a frozen state - they aren't active, it just makes switching back to it a lot quicker. What is probably draining your battery is push notifications from facebook and gmail. Now they only way to stop this is to disable push, or turn off auto syncing (whichever description they use on your phone), obviously this is a crap solution as the whole point of a smartphone is the data.

Given that you can't afford the data though - go for it.

Also if you think that charging your phone every 24 hours is not normal for a smartphone..... heh.
