ok strange thing happening:
I recently got a HD tv package with a new media box which outputs HD tv streams at whatever HD level they are and the audio at whatever format it is.
Now, I've noticed that if I am zapping through channels and either go from HD to SD or vice versa I will lose picture/audio sync and my amp seems to be trying to renegotiate everything. It doesn't manage this by itself, but does if I switch from the tv input to an unused input and back again. After such a switch I get both video and audio back.
the setup is a PS/3 and the HD tv box that go into a NAD T747 amp that goes into my hdtv. everything is connected with HDMI cables of different pedigrees. I noticed that when I first got this amp that it was rather picky about which (HDMI) cables it liked and which it didn't. I discovered this, because it would lose sync with the PS/3 when playing audio and showed this by choppy sound or stopping playback all together. It would only do this when the TV was *not* on. After changing that cable for a presumably better one, this behaviour stopped and the PS/3 would output perfect audio regardless of the TV being on or not.
Now the HD media box seems to be subjected to the same behaviour by the amp. I've already ordered a much higher grade HDMI cable to fit between the PS/3 and the amp, but tried the setup by bumping the known good cable to the slot that is being gay, to no effect.
All output devices are set to "auto" and allow hdmi video and audio where possible. The behaviour is present regardless of me setting the amp to upscale/pass through video to 1080p at 50 or 60Hz or leave it at auto.
So, anyone have any tips for meh? I mean switching the output selector of the amp isn't a great pain or anything, but it irks me that stuff is not working as it should.
