last night it was 30 degC in my room

i was happly using my computer and i rebooted to linux, all was happy

tried to boot back to windows, it just gives me a black screen :(

ah poo...

teh data on the HDD seems ok, so i suspect the MBR

(i've checked my grub config and boot.ini)

any help greatly appreciated, i really don't want to have to reinstall and/or backup 100gig of data

the data is intact and viewable from your linux install, yes?
If so, you can fix whatever the problem is from there (assuming linux boots normally, it's not the MBR, but something to do with the windows boot image). Perhaps let it cool down for a while then try again, odder things happen :)

that was lastnight, it's cooled down pklanty since

that was my first thought

(and it could be the MBR as i booted to grub, on teh linux disc tehn chose either ubuntu or xp, so i can get to linux without going anywhere near the xp disc, unless i'm mistaken)

although i'm now in a live cd version of ubuntu as the xp recovery console "fixed" the mbr of my ubuntu install :(
