I've eben downloading high definition/blu ray films to see if theyre worth buying.

Anyway, do i need a special cable or a high end gfx card to play it from my PC on my HD TV? If yes is it possible to transfer it to my PS3 and play it via that?

THanks

No special equipment to get them to your HDTV, just a standard DVI or HDMI cable will do. HDMI isn't really standard on graphics cards so chances are you'll have to output via DVI. No difference really other than DVI doesn't have sound, so you'll need to get that to your TV seperately - optical for example.

Hi megadave

As nath said, most graphics card have a DVI output, which will provide a digital video signal. You can use this (plus a separate audio cable) to connect your PC to your HDTV. Chances are your HDTV doesn't have a DVI input, so you'll need to use either: a) a HDMI cable with DVI adapter, or b) DVI cable with HDMI adapter (the latter will be cheaper, since HDMI cables can be expensive).

As you rightly suggested, transferring or streaming the videos to your PS3 would be easier, since the console will already be setup with your TV. However, since most videos you download on the internet are compressed in some way, it depends what video codecs the PS3 supports.

Kind regards

Jonty

P.S. I wouldn't recommend using a VGA cable. It will support 720p, but not 1080p, plus it's an analogue signal which will degrade according to the length and quality of the cable.

P.P.S. If you want to play Blu-ray movies from actual discs, this is better done on your PS3. Internet videos are usually compressed, so they're less demanding to playback on your PC. Blu-ray movies are uncompressed, so it requires a more powerful PC (modern graphics cards help with this) and a Blu-ray drive (obviously :)). In contrast, your PS3 is already setup for playing back Blu-ray movies effortlessly.

Hi megadave

the same goes for dvi and hdmi both which have more problems than vga when used over 10m which is many peeps use hdmi/dvi to vga converters. for peeps willing to spen £300 you can get hdmi/dvi over ethernet where you need 2 ether net cables going ibetween your player and tv this also has some issues.

and if you want to play movies off or thru your ps3 use MKV2VOB util and download .mkvs convert them and transfer or stream via tv versity. wouldnt suggest streaming over wifi

oh and mkvs are easier on your bandwidth:)
