x2 BluRay equates to just under x8 DVD read speeds and the DVD read speeds are x8 as well. The Xbox360 isn't exactly a fast loader with a x12 drive so I can imagine BluRay is going to have some painful loading times on games with loads of textures and models. It mystifies me that they are shipping such slow drives when x16 DVD read speeds are common and x18/x20 are about to start shipping. I can't condem just Sony for that though as the Xbox360 is very noisy for a x12 and loading times on some games are over 30 seconds.

BluRay discs are alot thinner than DVD or HD-DVD for that matter, they are having to use a special TDK coating to protect the discs as I recall which is adding to the cost of the media.
