Having problems with my connection...

So, i just upgraded to 24 mbit / s internet. Well, it seem to work for my bro sitting a few meters behind me. He downloads at a speed of 2.1 megabyte / sec. For me, im lucky if i can download at 800 - 900 kbyte / sec. When he runs TP test, he gets a stable rate of 16.1 mbit / sec, max and mini results are the same. But when i do the same test, i get 14.7 max, 7 medium and 1.6 min. Have tryed TCP optimizer and done the same settings on our computers, but it doesn´t help me. We are both using a built in Network card, tho he´s mother board is slightly newer. Any suggestions on how i can fix this, maybe buy a new network card ?

edit: My built in card is named Marvell Yukon something...

have you update the drivers?
are you both connected to a router? daisy chained?

Ive got the newest drivers yes, and we are both connected to a Xavi 5222 modem, no router. And i can´t seem to access the modem either.
