Having problems with an SSD and RAID on a P35/38 motherboard?

Just found out the hard way that the ICH9R storage chipset on P35/38 motherboards does *not* like SSDs when you're using RAID - so either if you're using more than one SSD in RAID or have, like me, an SSD boot drive and RAID storage otherwise you are likely to hit a problem.

Symptoms are the BIOS not recognising the SSD as a boot drive, or it disappearing apparently randomly.

Thankfully it's possible to hack together a BIOS with an updated version of the firmware for this RAID chipset to work around this problem. You can find these over at OCZ Forum - Home or PM me and I'll give you a direct link. These are used entirely at your own risk - however the author is trustable and they are effectively just the normal BIOS for your mainboard with the ICH10R firmware instead of 9 (fully compatible)

As SSD's are becoming a better and better buy, I thought it may be worth having this information to hand here.
