Been getting progressively more nervous over the last few days with my eye surgery impending but I went and did something very stupid a couple of minutes ago and watched this...

http://www.gecenter.com/lasik_video_library.htm

Suffice to say I am now shitting myself :D That bit where they cut the flap in your eye doesn't look fun at all.

Hardest part is not rubbing your eyes afterwards (until they heal) according to the friends I know that have had it done. Don't know anyone thats regretted getting it done though or had any complications for that matter.

Had a look at getting it done myself a few years ago but they would need burn off to much ... Apparently there is a new technique simular to a cateract op were they insurt implants into your eye to correct the sight so might give that a go in a few years.

Gl Chod, few of my friends have have it done and everything was fine, apart from the itching as someone else has mentioned. I reckon its a small price to pay for having your vision corrected.

Laser eye surgery ?

Does this mean you can burn through steal like superman :) ?

They do thousands of these operations - if its what you decided to do then dont worry, hang in there - it will be fine.

How much does this kind of thing cost? oO

Well they all advertise at £495 per eye but that is for people with very slight eye problems and using the older equipment which is less accurate. I went for the full Lasik Wavefront which with my eye prescription costs £1295 per eye, so £2590 total cost which is bloody expensive to be honest but I hate wearing glasses and can't do contacts so this was my best option.

Around 1500 euro/eye in sweden. So around £1000 sounds about right. Anyway, its a very safe proceedure, only about 1 in every 1000 surgeries result in any sort of complications and most of those can be fixed with a second round. The most common compliation (if it happens) is that your eye becomes oversensitive to light and any lightsource will create a corona of hazy light for you during nighttime. Another drawback is that the proceedure isnt permanent - if you have the genetic/bilogical inclination for your sight to get worse it will start getting worse again, although it usually takes many years ofc. With bad luck you might be back to glasses/lenses again in a few years though and then the cost of the procedure might not have been worth it.

Anyway, good luck with it :) Im gonna get it done myself when i can afford it (started wearing glasses only 5 months ago and find them a bit irritating).

Yep,a small amount of regression over the next decade is common. There have only been a handful of cases out of 20 million surgeries that have had full regression so I am pretty happy with a less than 0.1% risk on that score. If I get 10 years good eyesight then it will have been worth every penny to be honest, if not then at least I will have been rid of my glasses for a few years I guess.

Sadly not, I don't think I could handle that power either to be honest. Walking around with a permanent erection would be pretty embarassing :D
