I saw this little white car-van yesrerday with a bizarre arrangment of 360 degree cameras and thought is was the police with new eqiupment, but it said Google mapping on the side. I wonder if the Google Earth street view of my street will have me driving past in the picture? :)

Yeah, me and the Mrs saw it a few weeks back when she was dropping me off for work. It was a black car with the cameras on top.

ah cmon, mooning google is funnier than getting your tits out on it. Although getting tits out on it would be quite good - but the woman invovled may not be too happy.

It was in Newmarket a couple of days ago. I got a black look from the driver when I shouted "stop invading my privacy!" :p

I'm surprised no-one's tried to disrupt the Google van. I'd love to see the nosy bastards getting flashmobbed every time they tried to go anywhere.

At the rate they're going, the street level maps/pictures will be more up to date than the appallingly ancient sat pics.

According to those, I'm currently sitting on a piece of wasteland opposite a derelict building, and these new buildings have been here for over 3 years :)

I had no idea google streetview was available for areas other than the usa. Seconding 'google sat images are old', atleast a 5 year delay for my city.

I don't think its actually switched on in the UK yet is it? Saw the van on Sunday in Bromley; rather attractive blonde lady driving.

Its hitting privacy issues in the uk - taking pictures of peoples private properties and putting them on a database is a nono really!

Just asking to get sued!

I want somebody to ask them about Chrome.

"So, you're taking photos of where we live, and data-mining us.. Google going for world domination next?"

Not up private driveways it isn't. Which is what they've been caught doing in the UK and the US, where there are trespass laws. (I think a town in Germany has banned them completely).

I know i might be a bit pedantic here but...isn't a guy walking past the house as much in a position to view the house as a van on the street?

How come it becomes suddenly a privacy issue when it's a camerashot, which is no more targeted/singled out then eyes on the street.

Just looking for some clarifications i guess...

Yep. But not a guy on the internet in Kenya...

Anyway, if someone walked up the street and stopped at your house taking pictures would you like it particularly? Given that you were making a milkshake in the nude at the time? ;)

I'm less concerned about this than loads of other things tbh.

Well to me, all the people who walk by my house daily, and drive by, and could see it any time they want, one picture of the house wouldn't really bug my bum :D

No, because a private driveway isn't a public right of way. In fact a lot of private driveways are surrounded by trees etc. or may have a bend designed in deliberately so you can't see a house from the public road; but Google seem to think they've got a divine right to go where they please.

This is true. If they're driving up to take photos of rich people's houses it's something to get upset about. ;)

I just find Google's arrogance more annoying than some random rich person's arrogance. Not to mention their hypocracy. "Do no evil", my arse.
