I have no experience of the UT on Line community, but I do play Q3F on line. I have to admit that I don't play on publics all that often, only really clan games, but the people do seem, on the whole to be pretty good.

You do get the odd people, who happily flame away in the chat console when they start to lose, etc etc. Our clan sniper is often accused of cheating (he's a damn good shot, we get fed up with him when we are practicing!!

In general though, everyone on line is pretty chilled, there are people who are quick to temper and just flame away instantly. But there always will be, if we take there posts with a pinch of salt, and get on with it, we should all get on.

I've made intensly annoying posts, I think people jsut ignored me, so be it. (I wonder whos peoples ignore lists I am on?).

I agree with TDC

I've played over the past 3 or 4 years ;
4 or 5 versions of q2
a bit of unreal T
q3
a few months of counter-strike
RTCW
DoD
The one thing i notice is that the games with the most whinging,whining childish players are counter-strike and q2 freeze tag.Now the thing these 2 games have in common is a lot of inactivity ,particularly if your not very good.(CS if your dead,Freeze Tag cos your frozen!)What Im trying to say is its probably because theres not much to do BUT bloody whinge.In Freeze you were considered a cheat if you camped (its a team game ffs!) or even if you were an LPB.In CS your a cheat if a.your any good or b.You ARE a cheat.This is all a shame because Freeze was imo one of the best q2 mods,and CS is still arguably the BEST online game ever made.(IMO!)But i cant see me playing it over and over,theres just too many whingers.
Try playing q3 lads,not much time for whinging there!

Most ppl are still laid back. The others can can be ignored :)

/edit: and UT was still pretty good when I left.

I've never been that good at precise aiming games. Always seem to miss the blokeh by a mile.

BTW Throd: FT is out for Q3, and has been for a while. XPd play FT in the Clanbase ladder, and BW are thinking of starting a FT league up.

BTW: Sniping in UT is such an utter doddle it's untrue.

Facing Worlds, up the roof, sniper rifle, ammo & armour. As long as someone doesn't pop through the teleporter behind you you're laughing.

I once racked up over 100 kills in 20 mins on a pubby CTF match on that map. Piece of piss. And I never really play UT either.

The community that surrounded UT for the first little stint after the demo and game realease fucking ruled. Really fun, friendly community. Then the elitist toddled off to #wput and it all went downhill from there. We all know about the games flaws, that's irrelevant to the community side. Now the community is a mess, there's about 15 decent people that play the game, and most of them seem to reside in my clan. It seems that no matter what the skill level of the players in UT, they're still abusive "I'm better than you" wasters. Trying to play a clanbase games against other UT clans is an utter joke, you'll be lucky if the opposing clan has 5 members on the server by 9:30 when the match was due to start at 9.... The community has gone to shit, it's a joke.

The same goes for most of the other communities, too. CS when it first started was picked up by people and welcomed heartily, it was a fun thing for everyone involved. It's since grown and become even worse than the TFC community every so dearly loves. Quake 3 has a pretty good community if you can steer clear of the division 1 types, and the whinging arseholes (hello Me, Sar :p)

Oooo, and TdC: *tempt*.... join me in my green ways... :D

Nah, some random translocation will get you across face easy. You must have been playing some real n00bs :)

I played on a UT DM server lst night (a bit of testing.) 2 fucking obvious aimbotters :(

That's better than I ever got on my crappy winmodem. Never dropped below 500, couldn't maintain a connection for more than 10 minutes without dropping :(
