Hi all,

I want this laptop (Buy Acer Aspire 6930 Gemstone Blue 16in Laptop. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .), but I am worried their advertisement may be wrong...

Additional Information
Please note that this product is excluded from our 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Current selling price valid until 24/07/2009

Everywhere else I've looked has an almost identical laptop....
Acer Aspire 6930G Laptop LX.AVB0X.001 - Laptops Direct

The Argos laptop has a slightly slower cpu, but 4gm ram instead of 3gb. Also the Argos laptop has 9600GT as opposed to the 9600GS.

If I purchase the laptop and its been incorrectly advertised, can I get a full refund?

I think so.

I once got a motherboard from Ebuyer, and it stated on the website it could hold 4gb of RAM, but i got it, and it only held 2gb, and this was confirmed on the product website and on the packaging.

They gave me a full refund, however it may differ company to company.

Have a look at their returns policy or something.

as far as i understand it, the 30 days money back is if you dont like it etc

NOT if its defective, which a misadvertised thing is

You can return it under the distance selling regulations if it is not fit for purpose or you changed your mind.

I think regardless of how you buy it - if they mark it as something and it's not, then they will have to give you a full refund.

Being honest, I would push you towards LaptopsDirect. You would be paying by card, making the order online and receiving the goods by courier/parcel. You would be COMPLETELY protected by consumer law and regulations.
Credit card purchase gives you the option of "cooling off" on distant sales.
Distance Selling regs also give you cooling off time, as well as additional rights with regards returns.
Sale of Goods regulations give you the right to get a repair or replacement in the first 6 months. The onus is on the retailer to repair or replace, not the manufacturer so they shouldn't try and fob you off to Acer.

If you walk into Argos and pay cash, you have NO additional rights or protections except the Sale Of Goods Act, and they even try to wriggle out of that with their "exemption" from the returns policy.

I imagine it might be worth seeing what they advertise it as in store too.

If the advert does not match the product (are the argos codes the same) then you are entitled to your money back in full. Would be suprised if argos even argue the point.

Bahu, why not walk into your local Argos if they have it in stock. Check the specs on the box, see if they are what you expected. If not do not buy the item.

Yeah, Trade Descriptions Act. If it doesn't match how it was described you are entitled to a refund.

LaptopsDirect...that's the site my example was based on lol. They have the machine but with a different spec so I think it's best to try and do what Ch3tan suggests. Thanks though Zen :)

Good plan, just have to see if they'll let me do this :p

They have some shit on their site which says "if we dont have this we'll give you something similar or better for the same value". They also say some crap about "the item may be different to whats here as manufacturers can change the products they supply us".
I cant remember the full quote off their site but it seems a little odd...

Is this generally on the site, or on this particular item? The former is arse-covering, the later is concerning.

Just remember, you cannot sign away your statutory rights! Law > T&C's.

BTW the argos specs are complete rubbish, I can't find a corresponding model on the Acer site.
