Well being a good little bunny [and Half life said my drivers were long out of date and i should upgrade] i installed the 5.5 cats last week.

i loaded up Half life and got alot of graphical errors on textures. I used the cat remover and went back to the 4.12s i had been using.

Now i've tried every version [asside .10] between .9 and .5 and each shows the same problem.

but only in FPS..the 5.3 cats allow me to play WoW and GW without any GFX errors.

So i am wondering..ghave the 5.5 cats damaged the extended memory on ym GFX card cuasing the textures too mess up.

Its a Herc Rad 9700 pro, between each driver try I used the ATI Cat remover to make sure the machine was cleaned.

Hi Gale

I wouldn't worry too much about damaging your hardware, it's hard to do through drivers alone. Just a couple of questions come to mind. Firstly, is or has your card been overclocked or 'soft-modded'? Secondly, are you using any third-party software utilities to control your graphics?

I would say try using Hercules' latest branded-drivers but they're the Catalyst 4.10s, which are very much out of date (the second number is month, so 10 means October, in this case, 2004). Instead, try downloading the latest 5.5s but without the Catalyst Control Centre (which itself requires the .NET Framework). Once downloaded, try uninstalling both the ATI Control Panel and Display Drivers from the control panel (try not using the Catalyst cleaners this time). Restart, run the 5.5 setup, restart when complete, then give a few games a try. I doubt it'll have an effect, but since you've otherwise done what I would suggest, I'm unsure how to proceed.

Kind Regards

Thanks jonty

Interesting i came accross this thread on the rage3d forums which points to the same problem...seems pretty rampant with regard to the 5.5s :(

Hi Gale

At least you're not alone in your troubles :) For what it's worth, Rage3D may be a better place to help remedy your problems give their (I'm guessing) expertise, although I'm sure FH and myself will be happy to help if we can.

I hear the 5.6 drivers due out next are fairly significant in that they offer notable performance improvements for 'free' due to improved rendering techniques. Here's hoping they also fix your problems too.

Kind Regards
