That lasted the whole map...seem to work its way higher and highger...during the daytime its fine but when all the servers are full in the evening it seems to feel it badly.

I wonder if its a server thing ? Ive played on errr... other servers and not had it :confused:

Personally I don't particuarly like or dislike Havanna/Chateau, but they are so laggy its unplayable on 56k and also my fps drops to about 5, and I'm using a GF3...

God knows why they are on the popular maps servers, that is just silly and the 20 man server rotation makes BW look like a laughing stock.

To paraphrase the immortal words of LPBs everywhere when confronted by a HPB connection whinger like me :
"Go buy a decent machine then n00b".

My machine is bloody ancient (well, 3 years old) and it has no discernable difficulty with Chateau. Can't say my heart is bleeding for a LPB bitching that his ping is finally at my 56k level. :p

You could try running a TNT2 with 1999 vintage drivers like me Lilz... Works beautifully even on Chateau. :)

I've long mistrusted Geforce cards... People seem to have so much trouble with them. Mistletoe, phases of the moon and sacrificing goats as you click download driver from the Nvidia site.

Seriously though, I'm inclined to think that this lag might be server or BW network induced, not down to individual machines or connections.

I am now convinced it is a connection problem. When for one reason or another you're not getting a good connection it is then that the map gives problems.
My pc owns CS, I mean really, but people with a lesser pc but broadband connection instead of my isdn dont suffer fps drop like I do on Chataeu.

Thing is, EVERYONE gets the lag spike so it's kinda equal still :)

Havana is fine. As somebody else has already mentioned, its the only hossie map where the hossies get rescued repeatedly (and without too much trouble, unlike Embattle's attempt on Militia last night!). Chateau is becoming a little less interesting as Bombsite B is a nightmare. Bring back de_storm :)p )

havana is a terrible map, the hossies can be gone in about 3 seconds out the window and away. the only option is to camp the hossies for the entire map or kill 3 of them every map.
either way its dumb.

as for chateau, it is not a connection problem, unless the entire server somehow has problems with their connection, and then manages to sort it out for the next map. its probably load or something, and as for there being 3 ways in, theres actually 4.
if a kind teammate gives u a leg up into the window just left of spawn.

i dont like either map tbh, bring back THUNDER !! u bastards.

i never understood the logic behind removing maps in releases, they should just leave them all in and let the players/gsp's decide what maps to play/cut.

hrm, i cant remember what the thread im posting in was about so im gonna leave it at that.

Didnt like thunder much tbh ...
Anyway think about it isuck. When you have a good connection Chateau is no problem. I played it on the 12 man server the other day, it was fine. But, when there are net problems and 18 people its then that theres a problem. The fact that the next map, dust or whatever - yawn, is ok just proves the point. Something about Chateau , be it textures, detail, whatever, doesnt like anything but the best net connection.
Embattle, with your cable modem, do you get problems with this map? Bet you dont, yet our pc's are pretty similar.
Point proved i think.

I always assumed that peoples problems with this map were caused by underpowered PC's. Poor Dan in my clan can't play Havana or Chateau at all, but then he struggles with Torn too.

And Thunder was a great map, I miss it already.

No Itchy , this is just what Im saying, my pc is as good as anyones, but i still lose fps on that map when the connection is bad. I dont understand why , when i can maintain 125 fps on Q3 no matter what map, or how many people or whatever, but there you go. It has to be my isdn.

I have no problems at all with Havavna or Chateau, I'm on a cable modem Throddy, me ping goes up a bit but it doesn't affect the levels at all.

There you go ! Tremor proves my point precisely. My pc is a bit faster than his, bit his connection is betterthan mine.

For what it's worth, I have a PIII 800 with a GF2 Pro card and I can play Chateau fine, I even quite like it :)

I do have ADSL though, so I guess Throddy is right. Thing is that things like shootable planks and plaster that you can shoot off is pretty, but must add shitloads to the amount of data that the server needs to send to each player.

I am shit at the technical side of things but logic tells me that it must be these things that cause most of the problems that people with slower connections have.

i do have a good connection, and chateau is a problem. it is a lagmap. you are connection obsessed. if it was a connection problem, explain how it is only chateau that effects it?

Either because of the size of it or the textures. Look I have a xp2.0+ with 512 ddr memory and a GF4 ti4400. You think its my pc ?
Tell you what. I play DoD also. All maps run at my default 60 fps no matter what.
But when I go on the Jolt 32-man server ,on the same maps i usually play , my fps can go down to 40 from 60 then back up again.
My pc makes 9350 on 3dmark, and 205 fps avarage on Q3 standard demo ant 1024-768. There is not a problem with me pc.
Waht Im saying to you is , just for the record, the map is effected by your connection , much worse than the regulars like dust, millita etc. Neither do the "old" new maps like Survivor give any problems.

Hehehe Jobs, she ain't that bad is she? Yes Dinger is good and I'm surprised he chose the screenshot that he did for the screenshot thread, I've seen him get loads better scores than that, last night he had a sexy score.
