made me laugh when shearer said rooney should 'lay one on ronaldo' when they get back to training ...

then realised what he said being a little politically incorrect and went ever so quiet

but i certainly agree with him xD

Isn't it possible that the ref figured Rooney's first offense wasn't worth a red card, and he was sorting out the free kick... probably ignoring Ronaldo's antics... deciding on the red card when Rooney committs his second offense (pushing Ronaldo). Maybe he figured Rooney had earned the red card when adding both the crotch stepping and the push, and that's why the card didn't come up until Rooney tipped the scales with his roughing?

Viewing the sequence, it looks to me as if Rooney should have just kept cool and let Ronaldo earn his own yellow card for whining.

I lived in uk now for 1 year and a half and seen the difference of how football is looked at in sweden and england at least. I was cheering for both sweden and england in the wc and felt like i was watching sweden when i saw england...was as nervous and devoted. I do agree with marc and bracken that the judge did look very different once rooney pushed ronaldo and my view is he decided to pull the red card then. though no one but he knows i guess:p what i dont like is how the press and a lot of english people are like after....as i allready discussed with marc in the erlier posts. It seems impossible for the english press to just accept a defeat and say, ok....i guess we werent good enough. Instead they have to blame svenis who took them this far. It have by no means been easy for any of the bigger teams in the group play, and instead of complaining about how boring england played because of svens coaching maybe you can just be happy they got through the group as winners...which all the other big teams had a hard time with.

Wc isnt like in 86...90..94 when you had "weaker teams" that the bigger teams can just walk all over. Every team have a chance as you noticed.
So imo up to then svens coaching got england through with a very good result. It was written a lot in swedish media before the quarters how predictable the english press would be...if england won they would salute sven as a genius....any other result would make him the scapegoat and a terrible coach:p guess what happend hehe. they also talked about how it would be if england came to penalties...and you know that result. All in unison in swedish media that the pressure england and the press put on the player is a direct factor in loosing those penalties. Everyone of thos players( at least lampard etc) is a top player. I agree with that. But any top player which isnt a robot will loose a penalty if the pressure is too high. Its easy psychology.
When sweden lost which they did good hehe, the talk wasnt too much about the coah...rather what we could do better next time and that many players werent in shape etc. In the english press its deperatly trying to find someone to hang and flame. They had an interview with the judge that ruled a goal away for england in the euros( a swiss guy). he had been hunted...his phonenumber and email had been put in the press....people had put a flag at his house to mark were bombers could fly by to kill him...threatened...you name it. Erhm..i think its taking the GAME to another level imo. Some need to chill...accept a defeat no matter bitter it was. I was very disapointed when england lost. But i dint wanna hunt down and kill anyone:p
over and out...

He was just saying what was his mind

Thats the player Shearer was, great player, nice bloke(my dad met him on the night he signed for Newcastle, sat talking to him at the hotel bar) and a good captain for his country.

Beckham was the same, people knock him for being a pretty boy but when he pulled on that shirt, he played with pride. Thats why he was in tears when he resigned Captaincy yesterday

Id say give the armband to Gerrard, hes proven he is a leader of men(and donkeys, given the state of Liverpool last season!)

you have to understand, for the press, claiming we just lost and arent good enough isn't going to sell papers not nearly as many as claiming it is someone elses fault.

and such england hate in this thread :(

aye:( But from my point of view its totally objective. Its based on my views from living here. The passion is the same for football in sweden, but its how show the passion thats different. I like england. i cant help but to draw similarities between some daoc( leet ones:p) players and some english supporters i met though hehe.
Also about the press, yeh its true they have to sell...but english public should realise that press is a bit cause of english failure imo. English press is worldwide known for being very harsh.

No I said they don't know what they are talking about. That's not flaming, that's my considered and humble opinion ;)

The anti-English comments are those who have come on gloating specifically because England lost and saying we're exclusively hooligans - which is not particularly about views on Ronaldo is it?

I've not said anything about Ronaldo should die and neither has anyone else afaik. I've said I hope Rooney twats him on the training ground. Big difference.

In an earlier post (The England vs. Portugal post) there were one or two who said they hoped a sniper would take out C.Ronaldo.

Watching this live I at first thought Rooney was hard done by, and that he might have been sent off for the push. But on further viewing it was a stamp and he did deserve to get sent off for that alone.

I am probably wrong but was the guy Rooney stamped on the same Chelsea player who collided with Rooney when he broke his foot??

Anyway Ronaldo was a total twat for his reaction afterwards, he is imo a showboating posing little prick.

From what Ive seen in the last few years lot of Portuguese players and teams (club as well as country ) seem be becoming the world leaders at diving and feigning injury............could give Joe Cole a lesson or two ;p

Tbh i saw alot worse in the world cup that didnt get punnished - but thats ref consitency for you. Red/yellow he should have been punnished and england lost coz they were shit all through the WC.

Problem for Ronaldo isnt training or playing football in england, its gonna be living there.

Im sure there plently of people in Manchester who will quite happily chin the fucker in reward for his behaviour. Im sure his home location is available on public record and that he will be harrassed. In the next year/season he will have to have bodyguards and security follow him everywhere he goes. His freedom will be impeeded and he will become a virtual prisoner. Known aquaintences will be harrassed and maybe even abused due to their proximity to him. The english public have a very long memory and if he thinks this will blow over and he can carry on he is very much mistaken.

To a certain extent thuggary is never far from the english persona, wind us up and we lash out. His mear presence will wind the english up, untill he shows that he is regretfull of his actions he will never be left alone here. He will be hounded by the public and the press until he leaves.

I'll give him 5 months max.

He was a poor ref throughout. Even that incident should never have happened - Rooney was fouled when he was sandwiched by 2 Portuguese and the ref failed to call it. The incident came out of that. Have you ever actually watched live top level football ? Stick to wtf pwning in computer games because you clearly have no grasp of how football should be played and refereed. :p

hmm, i disagree. i think he was quite good. altho id say the ref throughout the tournament have been amazingly bad. yes i have watched live top level football quite alot, and i have my mind set up about it. its a pansy sports for weak crybabies made by crybabies. i absolute hate what football has become, the might aswell remove the two goals and put in judges that give points for good diving. and yes, england dives as much as most other teams (ofc there is extreme teams like italy/portugal). ive played football for loads of years and also done abit of refereeing(very low level tho!) so i have an idea tyvm. and idd i rox in computer games, maybe should start playing again :)

It is sad to mentally/physically torture someone by making life tough for them by perhaps harassing either him or his friends/relatives.

But no, I'm not going to cry because in the end, they'er the ones who'll have the police on their tails and end up crying ^^

Ronaldo is a fuck and everyone knows it. Hope he gets what he deserves when he gets back to England. Although I did win 10 euro betting he would cry when he got subbed vs Holland. (Safe bet)

Sorry, realise you spent time on this, but I'm sensoring this picture due to PMed complaints; fair enough really - showing a football player killing another isn't exactly suitable - Eggy
