If it was the other way around there would be no problem. because its emphasis on "white power" people start wetting themselves about it.

as bod said, PC is the thing thats sinking lower, not Sony....

oh god I just defended Sony, whats happening to me?!?!

Actually, I'm usually one of the first to say something isn't racist, and I loathe all this positive discrimination and "they cast my boy as a monkey in a play" nonsense, but this image is dodge. You have the black woman personifying the old, dated PS2 and the white woman assuming the role of the superior, new white PS2, and then you throw in some domineering body language... They could have achieved the exact same effect through clothing, dramatic make up, but they chose this look, and condensed it down to a clash of the colours with the tagline. If this photo was just about two women, then the colour would be irrelevent, but the product and the tagline make the colours the focal point, and attach values to those colours too.

Someone at the advertising department is either after the shock press, or is a moron.

They both needed to be naked and fighting in honey, then it would be acceptable.

I think it was deliberate.

More people now know about the product after this which is the main objective of an Advert...

Not at all racist, but a marketing genius in the PR department.

It's borderlining rasicm so close(according to silly these days "moral standards") that it's the best kind of publication one could ask for, without getting sued.

I think, somehwere along the lines of Tom here, people need to chill the f*ck out.

Rasicm would be erased if the, somewhere in history, opressed races would let us.

When it comes to using black and white in advertising you should just leave human beings out of it. Then the PC Brigade have nothing to moan about.

They should have had a white poodle pissing on a black poddle. Much better ;)

CTRL+ALT+DEL were talking about this the other day. I do like his pisstake DS Lite advert.

I don't think it's racist either. On the other hand though, yeah, it is a great marketing tactic. All publicity is good publicity!

Blu Ray for the win.

Regarding the advert, there are undertones of racism but hats off to Sony for causing a stir and thus probably doubling their advertising exposure for less money and hopefully making blu ray win the fucking format war.

(edit: I know it's not a PS3 advert, but any Sony exposure is good)

I was thinking:

If Suggs were to speak out about this advert and that it's inappropriate, would that be a case of Madness gone politically correct?

Why? Is their flavour of pointless evil DRM wank somehow tastier than the other sides?

if no one mentioned anything about race i wouldnt of thought about that being racist in the slighest.

im unsure how you can say it is racist.

unless you start thinking about things outside of what this is. which is a fucking advert for a piece of electronics.

tbh any image is tainted by the mindset of the viewer.
its a bit like those psycho analytical ink blobs pictures where u gotta say what u think they look like.
reveals a lot about the mind of the viewer but doesnt necessarily come out as what the image was intended to be about.

on the other cynical hand u could say they knew the chances were folks would either get upset bout the whole oppression due to race or pseudo sexual domination aspect of it and thus generate controversy& worldwide coverage F.O.C:D

Well it may or may not be racist, I just think that I might have thought it's a little dodgy if I'd seen it in the street. I think you'd have to be pretty clueless and/or brain-dead to not see any connotations in it though, whether you thought they were serious or not, and only see an advert for a gadget.

I agree with others when they say it was probably a carefully plotted marketing scheme, and also think it was deliberately released first into a country where they wouldn't get an instant refusal, knowing it would eventually get talked about on the internet world wide being what it is, a Sony gadget.

well it depends. fine if you go walking down the street and analyse every fucking image you see and everything you hear.

but if i see an advert then what i see is, well, an advert.

im sure if it was the other around no one give a hoot about it.

Maybe not, but that's neither here nor there.

tbh - it's not racist in the sense that it's not trying to say white people are better than black people. However it's clearly trying to make people think that's what it's saying and so causing a stir etc.

Bill Hicks was right tbh - people working in marketing/advertising should kill themselves.

That's what everybody does with giant billboards, whether they think they do or not, at least that's what advertising people think, otherwise there would be no point to them.

Okay, my wife just saw the picture and says it's not racist at all but more like lesbian erotica, especially with the refernce to 'coming'. She thinks they're trying to appeal to a rising, nerdy, lesbian market. :)
