Normally on patch days and game day i get ZERO lag, since the beginning of the week ive been gettin bad lag and i thought it was the servers until i did tracert and some packets either didnt get through or took VERY long, now when the patch came along i was stunned to find that i was downloading at speeds of 2.0kb/s to 4.0kb/s and im on BROADBAND, normally i get 14.0kb/s and the patch is done withing a few minutes now its taking hours.

Has NTL screwed up somewhere?

A couple of my old Q3 Clan are on NTL, and are complaining bitterly about performance, so I guess something isn't right NTL's end.

ADSL is fine here (or as fine as it gets!).

i emailed rightnow who are emailing someone else and i emailed admins at opentransit who are also emailing someone else so it might be sorted soon.

Just got this from right now literally 20 mins ago after posting about my patching problem.

Hello,

It seems that there is a big problem for the english servers, our technical team is working on this.
Yours sincerely,

PS Can anyone who is on a 600k cable modem NTL customer and has been sucessful in d/l patch let me know what area of the uk they r in , ive got a list of the NTL proxys so im going to try another area proxy address. Not sure if it will help but its worth a try.

NTLs Link in LINX (London Internet Exchange) has been maxxed out for months iirc and so depending on where u are and luck i think you may get routed loads of differant ways.

600k NTL customer here, no problem getting the patch at all, and no LD's either, BUT it has been slower this last week on all things and not just gaming. Web browsing has been pretty dire sometimes as well.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/hist.html

Don't pretend to understand it at all, but perhaps you might be able to find something that will help!

My lag's been terrible on NTL in manchester, every 10-15 seconds i get a big lag spike that sometimes makes me ld, sometimes i'll survive it till next time, definately unplayable atm. I did a tracert but being in work i havent got the details with me. From memory it seemed to be getting through NTL's routers ok and falling over nearer the french end...

All other network traffic seems ok tho, downloads seem fine etc... also i play neocron and i haven't noticed any lag problems there either.

I live in Herts region and have NTL 600kps cable connection and downloaded the patch without any problems or subsequent lag on patch day.

i have spoken to NTL directly for over 1 hour and they said they wont do anything about it so we r fucked.

I've just put a question on right now, i know when there was a problem with the Opentransit routers previously Goa got intouch with them and sorted it. I've put a bit of a tracert below which shows where my connection is failing, i wonder if it matches anyone elses?

If we make enough fuss hopefully we can get an answer as to why this is happening and when it will be sorted...

Hi ya guys!!

(I know I'm gonna get flack for this but hey)

I work for the CM (cable modem) side of NTL and I'm not getting any calls through on this..

being a DAOC playier I had a look see..

the only time I got any lag was when I hit the french servers and that wasn't too bad..

I managed to get the patch down with no problems at all quite quick on the 600K..

if you are getting any slow downs and they are on the ntlnetwork copy and paste them into an email (don't add as an attachment cos it won't get through the firewall/virus check)

the more that we get then the quicker it gets fixed.. ;)

I hope this helps..

Not really no..

it's a good bit of proof but it's just one bit....

we would need bout three pings to three sites just to prove tht it isn't a one off happening...

would be nice to know what time of day it was too..

and a test to nthellworld isn't really conclusive...

try one to ntlworld.com (yes I understand that they are both on the same network but ntlworld.com has a higher capacity than nthellworld.com <the lower the capacity but more people hitting it means higher pings>)

then three to your Goa server: (you get the IP when you log in so it shouldn't be to difficult to make a note of)

the three to where ever (try and avoid american sites though as they just hammer your ping as soon as you hit the trans-atlantic)

send em through in standard ms-dos state (start>> run>> command >> tracert whatever >> copy the results down into an email..)

make a note of the time and send them in to cablemodemhelp@ntlworld.com

PM me if you get any more problems and I'll look into it for you... (this is a one off I don't want my mail box filled with personal requests so any others will be ignored)

:)

i can ping ntlworld, but what is the point? it doesnt get routed the same way. i have done more than 3 pings to GOAs servers but NTL msay "blah blah not in out network and because we are monkeys we dont know about reverse trace routes blah blah"

AND we arnt complaining about ping, its PACKETLOSS.

i will do reverse traceroutes for you, seen as tech support had no clue what one is and just ignored any of my own input -

hey whats that? its packetloss at hop 10, and which router has that come through? you bet, its the renfrew router from the nthelworld trace!

whats that? packetloss after the renfrew router again? what ever could this mean?! 3 traceroutes saying packetloss at the same router, nah thats never NTLs fault is it.

LOLOL

ok, ok if there is a problem in renfrew then I'll look into it..

hang on.........

ok I've checked down to the Middlesbourgh router thats causing you the problems not the renfrew..

(Midd rather than Ren)

they all seem to stem from the core router rather than the DHCP so I've sent the info off to be checked by the guys up in server house to see if theres a problem..

I'll know more in a short while...

the route to the ntl is usefull as a control test

interestingly though there was a spike:

4 sl-bb20-lon-13-0.sprintlink.net (213.206.129.69) [AS 1239] 52 msec 16 msec 212 msec

really quite high.. but it didn't drop the packet or time out.....

also do you use any proxies to route through??

its sorted for teesside area now.
and it wasnt the middlesbrough router, its was renfrew/brentford. thats what the network admins say anyway.

strange going by the info you gave me it was the middlesbrough router, also up until just recently we had a small problem with one of the routing nodes thats now been fixed..

I dunno which network admin told you that the problem was in renfrew/brentford as the problems been resolved in midd and now your working..

also your in the teeside which is midd...

why your going via Ren is beyond me..

I did some checks down to your Cable modem (given that your account name is the one in the http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lesley...nthellworld.jpg pic )

and that seems ok..

your running via the Midd 3 router which is now hunky dory!!

;)

T

my routing got changed to go through leeds and poplos instead of brentford and renfrew and that fixed the prob. they didnt do anything to mid-3 router, only changed my routing. doesnt matter anyway, what ever you tell tech support they tell you your wrong

i've just done a reverse tracert from a few sites in france and germany and all of them show packetloss at the oldham ntl router and everything is fine until that... maybe i was mislead in my earlier post where i stated my tracert shoed the problem seemed to eminate from the french opentransit routers (a few of the reverse tracert's i did passed through the opentranist routers i'd stated were causing a problem without any hint of packetloss).

D

dev1l

Guest
now thats strange cos there is a fault in Teeside with the error in the areas that came up in your ping tests...

packet loss off
midd-t2cam1-a-ge-wan34-108.inet.ntl.com [213.106.238.45]
mid-t2core-a-ge-wan61.inet.ntl.com [213.106.237.33]

this has been fixed now and the connx should be smooth...

and unless the pic isn't on your account and your using a proxie then you running through Midd 3..

Now I'm only a qulified network tech, with three years exp with the NTL networks...

but what do I know...

if you don't belive me check with NTL your self.. the wait time for calls is under two mins...

as far as I know there are no probs in oldham.. ;)

T

tris-

Guest
well there is no point in saying anything because you will just keep talking bullshit like any tech support person does. i just told you that my routing changed to a totaly differenty area but oh no im lieing, even if i showed you a before and after picture you would say i was wrong. and i have always been going through mid-3, whats that got to do with anything?

T

tanoin

Guest
i think it's fixed, i just did a really long ping -t and a few tracert's with no packetloss whatsoever.... fingers crossed!!! :) :)
