Bigbb, out of idle curiousity I've just visited that site you lifted the necklace picture from. I have discovered the source of all those didley pieces of shit that your parents buy you as a child when you visit somewhere cool, and want a cool sovenenier, but instead get fobbed off with a plastic frog. Do Not encourage this site anymore! It is bad, and must be punished.

Lemme get this straight here... You say that there are no American hero's and yet, before we stepped into WWII (only because we had been provoked to do so, mind you), Hitler was handing you guys your asses on a regular basis. Seems to me like we've got plenty of heroes.

I agree with you, without a doubt America contributed to the war effort and produced many heros, so why few Hollywood films about that saga, why are too many glorified (like "Kellys Heroes"), and not gritty (like "A Bridge Too Far" or "Band of Brothers").

WWII involved a lot of needless deaths, caused by f*cked-up decisions at the top, the reality is not something Americans want to re-live. The mistakes of WWII, Vietnam, Korea, etc are best forgotten by Hollywood, they like their heroes clean-cut and to be winners, so history has to take a running jump or steal someone else's hero and put him in an American uniform.

The main anti-American argument from Britain concerns the chutzpah displayed in letting Europe stew in a nasty war for a few years before jumping in and claiming glory. Why the American government took so long to realise the Nazi/Nippon menace is still unexplained, there was certainly a lot of public opinion about it, and those years are a dark period in American history.

That particular period of the war, i.e. just pre-Pearl Harbour, is not really discussed is it ? Where are the heroes then, they certainly existed (those who campainged for American intervention for example) but a film about them would have to expose America's apathy of the world situation and its isolationist attitude, in stark contrast to the "Global Policeman" and "New World Order" image we see today. Of course, in Hollywood, that subject is neatly skipped :)

(from Dr Suess went to War, yes THE "Cat in the Hat" Dr Suess).

It will be less of a comedy then the original and will begin in Italy, but with the robbery taking place in Los Angeles.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the whole point of the Italian Job?. I don't know why they bother, it was a great film to begin with. They'll never make anything anywhere near as good.

I'm kicking myself that I didn't get into "A Band Of Brothers" from the beginning (Same for "Oz"). I came into the series with only a few episodes left (unlike Oz) and was a bit lost for a minute. Turned out to be an excellent show, I'm waiting for the series to re-run.

Did anyone happen to catch the movie "Conspiracy"? What are your thoughts on it?

Cama you might wanna look this up. But America was already fighting in the ww2 before pearl harbor. First american death was in the atlantic. This happend caus Roosevelt in aid of Britain pushed the line that America claimed of the Atlantic more to east.

Yeah, great site, I read his books to my young-un all the time, I never knew he was a "political cartoonist" in his early career.

The gist of it is that there were a LOT of German immigrants in the US at that time. Many of whom renounced their German names (in much the same way as our own Royal family).

American political motives are always unclear, and as we see around us today never always work out for the best.

However, Hollywood and the Politicians must always be stressed away from most of the People. I've spent the last week in Washington, and the fact that you can have a light hearted conversation with the Secret Service guards around the White House speaks volumes.

Hollywood however is full of nationalistic "patriots" looking to glorify anything they can. They say that Spt 11th was this generations Perl Harbour. I assume we will be seeing a big screen remake in 40 years time. No doubt blowing it out of propotion in some way. How? We'll have to wait and see.
