In Tescos, last night. Enter the shop at 11.30pm and there is already at least ten people crowding round the stack of boxes containing the book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Amused, my friend and I wandered up the drinks isle and found that Frijj were buy one get one free, so we got one each while we were waiting. We then found some garden furniture right near to the Harry Potter stand, and sat down to drink and wait. As it was nearing 12am, more and more people started joining the crowd, and eventually at 11.50pm people started queueing behind the boxes. My friend an I further amused by the fact that we could stay at the front and sit down
Anyway with 5 minutes to go my friend could sit down no longer so she stood up and got into the front part of the queue. By this time there were about 50 people lining up. At 12.01am precisely, three security guards came up. One announced that checkout three and five were 'Harry Potter only' checkouts. Then they proceeded to open the boxes, which were fairly secure
Ahh it was all very amusing for me and with everyone now clambering over each other to be the 'first' to get a book, it was madness. So I hung back while my friend got a book and got in the checkout queue. Then I picked up my three copies. One for my neighbour, one for myself, and one for the friend that I am seeing later today
Ahh bet you're bored to tears now, I just thought I should write this down as to me it is pathetic that people are so god damn impatient that not only will they go to a shop at midnight (admittedly yes, I had succumed to this part), but they were willing to wait in a queue and then there were people shoving others out of the way just to be the first to get their hands on a book.
On another note, it is 766 pages long, and apparently the American version is 900+ pages long, probably only because they have to use a bigger font due to Americans being retarded, but I'm still jealous.
