Totally against my grain to actually start a thread anywhere, let alone here, but whatever. Anyone see this on channel 4 the other night? I did, and liked it and stuff.
I'm so used to seeing generic pointless tripe that the extremity, and perhaps honesty, of the subject matter took me by surprise somewhat, and the odd bits of obvious humour left me with the impression that the entire film was ironic, but from reviews I've read it seems that it's generally a serious movie. The disturbing boy-father conversation scene left me laughing hard with incredulity, for instance, so I have a sneaking suspicion I didn't quite "get it". In any case, I like this film a lot purely because of its unusual and controversial take on a lot of things, even though the acting appeared strained to me at times.

It is indeed a very black comedy with a serious point. Creepy/depressing/piss funny, brilliant film.

If you liked that check out his earlier film Welcome To The Dollhouse http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114906/ which is a VERY cruel and funny piece of work about a misfit teen girl (WEENERDOG!) who is very disturbed.

Top director, good choice, glad you liked it mate.

I'll watch any film with Philip Seymour Hoffman in. I'll seek this out.

Thanks, Lous.

Is it just me or does PSH always play the same sad fat loner geek character? He seems to be a pretty decent actor, surely he could do something else?

Also, yes watched it last night.. was refreshingly fucked up and I did enjoy it.
