I'm pinging about 45 or so, hardly poor compared to the old level3 hosting problems. And the loading speeds are similar to before, I still get straight in at the pistol round.

45 or so? we aint all on uber connections im pingin at 500+ on modem, its fucking taking the piss (pardon the language). Sort it or lose ppl.

I'm averaging 180ms atm although is has a habit of spiking more than it used to. Before Admin mod I got 160ish. I'm not that bothered because I prefer the no cheat software.
CS is far more unplayable withe a server full of twats who cheat than an extra 30 ms on your ping. Also, if you are pinging at 500+ it sounds like u got an internal modem, and a shite one at that. Try getting a new modem (external Diamond ones are the best) but also look at your location. If you live out of town, then you aint ever going to get good pings I'm afraid.

i live in a small village in the middle of oxfordshire, and have had cable for a year, and isdn for a year before that... i must be one of the lucky ones :]

there are occasional lag problems due to one of the anti cheat plugins. Its not really that bad, everyone gets it so its still balanced, and you can cope with it. I barely notice it

oh how I miss my diamond 56k external modem and those glorious 180 pings, and oh how I hate currys for replacing it with the pile of shite prophonic crap thing that gives me 400+ pings.
mind you I was 8 for 7 with a 700 ping the other day, doesn't sound much to you scummy LPBs but I'd like to see you do it.

i agree the servers are fecked, they have been like that for 3 days now, huge lag spikes, i tried to play last night, but then my ping went from 80 to 200 continious, totally pissed me off so i quit and went and played RTCW instead,
but i did notice people leaving and complaining, which isnt good, people will not play on laggy servers. as some did last night they left and went to play on blue yonder or jolt.

A while ago when I was a hpb down the dreadded BT copper wire I tried a few different modems connected to it, I tried a USB modem (absoloute crap) then I went for an internal PCI modem (£40 from PC world) and it was c33l and as a result I recomend it and did have many complements from fellow CS players on how good my ping was 4 a hpb, anyway it was a Zoom 56K PCI modem.
So if u got probs buy it, try it if it makes no diff look somewhere else for your prob.
Just a thought :/

my ping has been going from 50 to 70 and 120(but only when everyone else's goes up above normal too) its annoying, but I dont feel any difference in game.

they give you a ping of 400, i had one with my new Tiny PC many moons ago (Timy suck now) and i was on AOL.
i had a ping that never went under 700 :/

I have an internal Diamond Super Express in my desktop at home, coupled with a 42000 connection I ping at 180 ish.
At work I have a Lucent win modem in my laptop which connects at 49000, 180 ping also.
Figure that one out??
/me wishes really hard for the cable to stretch down our lane.

this ping stuff is all very well , it does look higher on the scoreboard.however if you look at net_graph 3,you'll see the ping hasnt always actually changed.now i know netgraph shows ping to be lower than the scoreboard anyway,but if for example my ping on the board is 50-60,it shows as 25-35 on net graph.lately the board has shown silly pings of,like 150 or so,yet netgraphs ping has hardly changed.i wonder if this explains someones comment about not noticing any difference.

I cant believe any of you people saying theres no difference have played on bw public servers recently.
There IS a major difference. i take the point about the shown ping times but there are orribl (and very frequent) spikes and theres just no way you could have failed to notce the difference in play if you'ld actually experienced it.
I've started playng on jolt servers recently, coz altho they have got a bit worse too, its nowhere near as bad as bw atm.
And I'm not being ungrateful. I been playin on BW servers (of various varieties) quite happily, practically since BW started up. (QW!!)
I (and others) are just pointing out a problem in the hope that it can be fixed.

Actually its getting quite bad now. For me personally its a combination of things. Barrysworld servers have indeed got more laggy this last couple of weeks, but my other problem is that my ISP (Tiscali) have just swapped me over to another dial up number, which appears to be slower than the original.
Put the 2 together and my days of steady 160 pings have been replaced with a stated average of 210 - 220ms, spiking to 350 whenever something happens.
However, I tried another connection last night and although my ping was averaging at 190 - 200, I still got huge lag and spike problems, so it may not be all my ISP's fault. Could BT be bottlenecking 56k access at all?

At first the increase in ping was liveable, but now I dunno wtf is happening. Jolt use the same plugin as us, well they use .20 and were on .19 but they use the same thing, they dont have the lag spikes. Where as we do, and were losing a huge amount of players because of it. My ping has spiked from my usual 20 - 40 up to above 600 along with everyone else in the server, it makes the game no fun at all, and I just end up leaving. Being an admin when the lag has got so bad that people are leaving and its unplayable (600ping all round) I cant help but feel bad for the people and myself. I'm an admin in the server and I cant do bugger all to get rid of the lag, and I see more and more players dropping from bworld and populating other GSP's and this isnt good. The other thing that causes many people to drop and servers to empty is the map cycle, I've asked about this several times through forum posts and IRC but no real response, it would be great if we could have say all the 16 player servers running a popular map cycle similar to BY. Then have the rest of the 12 players perhaps boosted up to 16 players or just keep them 12 and leave their map cycles alone.
Thats a great solution because the majority of people want popular maps, if the majority of bigger servers give them popular maps they will be happy, I mean how popular is the dual duster?
Its always got people in it right up until 6am and then they come back when its back on. As for the other 12 players with normal cycles, they will be plenty to cater for the people who like the less popular maps.
That way we get more players and less people leaving, and its a more fun game for the majority, while the minority still have plenty of place to play the less popular maps.
Combine this with the lag being sorted out, and were onto a winner.
Will it happen tho?

Even without the lag the servers died the second a crap map came on as everyone would leave. Eventually every bworld server goes onto a crap map and empties, the only one that sustains popularity is the dual duster as it never goes onto a map like tundra or 747 :/
