Hi All,

I am currently the proud owner of a Sony PSP I only have 2 games at the minute for it (GTA and X-Men legends) and have played/owned a handful of others (tony hawks, super street fighter turbo alpha max mega ball breaking special whatsit and tiger's wood o_O), and now I'm stuck with a dilemma. I've read various reports and articles about the imminent demise of the PSP through lack of sales (Walmart and target (i think its target anyway) are both stopping sales of UMD format movies) the cost of the game to make is comparable to that of a ps2 game with considerably less income generated, and the lack of 'killer' titles.

e.g. The PSP has now been out for just over a year and has 3 games that have sold over 1 million copies. The Nintendo DS has been out for 4 months longer and has 13 or 14 games that have sold over 1 million copies. and in that 4 month gap there weren't many games released.

My Dilemma is this; Should I a) keep hold of the PSP and hope things improve b) trade in the PSP and get a DS or c) wait for microsloth to release their handheld system which will 'allegedly' beat the crapola out of the other two by combining the functions of a game console, mp3 player and PDA all in one big lovely bundle of corporate wank fest (although admittedly it will probably be very good as MS now have the experience of the sexbox and sexbox 360 behind them)

What would you do?

I think out of quality of games, the PSP
For quantity = DS

I've voted PSP, I've one with a 2Gig Memory Duo... need anything... put it onto laptop then onto the stick. Its brialliant. Plus I find it easier to use than the DS (which I think has some Disney style games tbh :( )

aye i forgot about the s/ware capabilities of the psp, my wireless lan at home has been down for about 6 months due to a power spike blowing the routers plug fuse so i havent been able to play about with it.

Does the DS have wireless capabilities for multiplayer play?

i owned a DS, sold it on ebay.

it was ok for a while then it seemed the whole touch screen thing was just a gimmick and many games could of functioned without it.

bought a PSP. had it for god knows how long. probably had about 5 hours worth of gaming, not even that i reckon.

maybe handhelds just were not my thing. id keep the PSP for the time being and hope shit gets better ;)

First up, I do not own a PSP.

I really like the PSP. Few of my m8s have one. Great games and you can get movies on it.

No Bluetooth tho. A phone would make it a real plus.

Anyway, two of the 3 friends who I know have one have got them chipped so thats a plus too.

For me, the only downside is its size. Its just too big. I've already got a portable movie player thats a lot smaller and I always feel that people on the Tube playing games on it look...well...odd to be honest.

If your stuck for games, head over to www.play.com - check out there 'bargain basement' style area. Get something like Midway Arcade Treasures - which includes All the Mortal Combats (Lui Kang anyone? :) ) + Paperboy and a load more items. Street Fighter Alpha is cheap :)

Micro Machines V4 is supposed to be good also, take a look around mate.
If you want to 'try before you buy' - try checking the net for people renting them out, I know screenselect rent XBOX 360 games.

I would say DS. Lots of quality titlels, the screens are fantastic (atleast on the light version) and the design is really cool. Most PSP games are just crap. Yep, there are a few nice ones, but buying a PSP for a few games isn't worth it.

So if you want one for gaming, I would say DS.

I use it to watch movies, but then I already had the equipment to move movies onto it.

Don't think the DS can be used to watch movies, can it? :p

Its upto preference at the end of the day, PSP has more to it and if you want quality titles over quantity... PSP :worthy:

Couldn't disagree more.

The PSP has mostly ports from the PS.

The DS has mostly original games made specificly for the console.

The PSP's big advantage used to be the homebrew community. But that has recently popped up for the DS as well so if you're into hax0ring your handheld to use it for things it wasn't meant for you can do that with both now.

For me the choise is very easy. Go for the DS.

PSP is slowly dying, UMD movies being pulled off all the shevles in America's main franchise stores because sales have been absyml. Games sales haven't exactly been shit hot either and there just aren't enough great games on PSP full stop, DS on the other hand has a number of top quality games and alot more coming. It is turning out to be a major cash cow for Nintendo and the third party developers coding for it.
