My rips are general purpose rips that are designed to work across Computers, WDTV, Tablets, etc. I'm interested to know what settings people use in Handbrake for DVD rips?

General

Output - MP4 File, Large File Size
Picture - Anamorphic Loose, Modulus 16, Cropping Custom (0,0,0,0)
Filters - Detelecine Default, Decomb Default
Video - H.264, FPS 25, Constant Framerate, Average Bitrate 2000, 2 Pass
Audio - AAC (faac), Stereo, Bitrate 160, Gain 10 dB
Subtitles -
Chapters - Create chapter markers
Advanced - Defaults

Animation

Output - MP4 File, Large File Size
Picture - Anamorphic Loose, Modulus 16, Cropping Custom (0,0,0,0)
Filters - Deinterlace Slower
Video - H.264, FPS 25, Constant Framerate, Average Bitrate 2000, 2 Pass
Audio - AAC (faac), Stereo, Bitrate 160, Gain 10 dB
Subtitles -
Chapters - Create chapter markers
Advanced - Defaults

Dude, I haven't ripped a DVD in a million years. As you mention you're ripping for a workable output across different platforms, can you give an insight in to the quality level on say...a 40" tv. I'm considering either a Mede8or or that Raspberryice thing with the xmbc mod (leaning towards the former for ease of use tbh) and so I could have a use for that program.

I use DVDFab's DVD Copy function to actually get the movie off the DVD and on to my HD then use the settings above in HB, so far the quality seems as good as the DVD when displayed on my 32" TV via the WDTV live although with those settings HB takes over an hour per film.

Since most the things I play them on are Stereo only I've set them to mixdown to stereo, although not sure if I should just leave it as DD.

Turned on Auto cropping and reduced the gain in audio to 4 in Handbrake, also trying my copy of DVD Catalyst again to see how it does.....all this testing is taking some time :p
