We use Hamachi at work for some file sharing because it keeps things simple for those that are not clever. Unfortunately the new version of hamachi sucks for linux support and I have a spinky netbook that I want to use which is now not happening

Can anyone suggest a similar alternative?

Always used hamachi myself but I know a guy who uses Remobo - Instant Private Network ™ Application and is more than happy with it, might be worth a shot!
